anyone ever dried or saved a set of gator jaws. also anyone ever tanned a hide?
Subtle gloating on the first ever SC gator hunt? Congrats!
You might try those European mount kits on the jaws, and the place to have the hide tanned-WBPlace in Wi
I think theres only a few tanneries that do gator hides. If you search Georgia Fish and Game or Florida Fish and Wildlife I think they list tanneries.
Best bet for the jaw/skull would to have it cleaned with dermestid beetles.
Here's a link that should help.
http://www.taxidermy.net/suppliers/skull.php
It should turn out museum quality and well worth it.
Of course now you're obligated to post pictures and a story!

I believe there are only two commercial tanneries in the US that do gator hides. Reptile hides are not the same as a deer hide, I'd pay to have the professionals do it. There is no quick or easy way to do the skull either, all the teeth have a nerve pulp in them.
I have seen a couple of estaurine crocodiles skulls that make an impressive conversation piece on a coffee table.
They look good bleached snow white, with all those big teeth showing.
As far as tanning,a friend of mine that took an 11' 6" gator is getting his tanned at a place in Griffin,Ga.Not sure of the name, but I can ask if you'd like to have more info.
