Just got my 58" 55# Super Shrew SP back from John at Sipsey River. Awesome "Green" oak pattern and very quick turn around. Will definatly see action during late archery elk season. What are your thoughts on "Dipping" a perfectly good Shrew? Not to worry too much as I still have my 56" 59# Super Shrew "Red Line" in almost pristeen condition. Wondering if any other TG'rs have dipped a high end bow??
Gene
there was a blackwidow on here a while back that had been dipped looked great!
you got any pics? would like to see them.
Yea, I have one of those too. Mine is a 62" 59# @ 28 MA. Mine is in "Brown Autom Oak" and also looks excellent. There again, I have another just like it but not dipped [MAIII] 61#@28 also 62". Camo MA did early Elk Hunt with me this year along with my Griffin. [I shoot both bows equaly well]
Gene
I'll see if I can Get Brock at Bull Mountain Archery to post some for me if he's not too busy.
Gene
I have an original '98 62" MA IV that is done in "Advantage" camo. It belonged to Bill Bonner (BW's bowyer at the time) and it is labelled "proto-type". BW ended up going with "Mossy Oak" camo for their official line of bows at the time. Here it is with my first deer I ever shot with a recurve. 60 @ 28, 10 pt buck.

Here are pics of the Gene's Shrew and Widow. The pics do not do them justice. They look great.

Brock thanks for posting the pictures for me....
Gene
No problem Gene. The leather went back on the Shrew just fine. Looks good on the rack doesn't it. It told me it wants to stay with me.........
No I heard it say its wants to go home with me. These look even better in person. I had the opportunity to hold them and look close and it is as good as any wheely bow camo. I love the widdow camo but the green is a better color for us here in the north west. Nice bows Gene..
That Shrew actually looks pretty cool all camoed out.
Now, can that stuff be removed down the road or it it on there for good?
You know, for as much as I like seeing wood grain on a bow, I DO like those dipped bows!!

I was wondering the same thing.
Pretty darn cool though!
Looks excellent! Don't set that down in the woods and take your eye off it, you'll loose it! Good work!
Gene, Your bows look great. They look like they would be real easy to loose esp. when you get to be our age :>). Remember where you set them. Brokenwing
Man those are nice.
Question: How well does it where? dose it scratch off, whats it cost
very cool i like it!
dont want to be putting that down in the woods. :)
Well I am not Gene but he told me that no its on for good and they prime the bow and then the camo and then two coats of clear and it is trough stuff. I am sure it will ware but just like any camo on a bow would. The cost I was told 100.00 plus shipping. Sorry gene I answered three of your questions.
I bought the MA before Elk Season from Sipsy River, worked it REAL hard here in the Pac. NW. for 2 weeks and not a Mark to be found. I was so impressed I decided to send them one of my Shrews. I think they both look great and are good representations of IMO a good looking "Dedicated" hunting bow should look like.
Don't get me wrong, as I still have plenty of 9+ "Pretty Hi End" bows on my rack as I love looking at and shooting them too.
When talking to John at Sipsy River he told me the bows were or would be lightly sanded and primered with a special primer to ensure adhession of the film all of the origional stencilling duplicated and put back on and then clear coated [I think 3 coats] John told me that in the rare event someone wanted to restore one of them to 'Origional" that this finish could be sanded off and re-finished.
You should check out his Sponsers post in the Classified sections of T/G. As of now the costs are $100 for 1 piece and $125 for 3 piece bows.
As a note, you might want to "get with him" pretty quick as he told me because of age and family health issues he was going to put the business Up-For-Sale. Keeping in mind John does not do the actual dipping as he is really busy but has another guy from his area doing the actual "Dipping". I'm fairly confident that the dipping part will continue, however best thing to do would be to contact John at Sipsey River.
Forgot to Mention, I live on one coast {God's Country} and Sipsey River is on the other....Well I had my Shrew back in a WEEK TO THE DAY. Great Turn Around Time !!!!
A couple questions from me now.. How do you feel this effected the value of these bows? How many others have dipped or would consider "Dipping" a High End Bow. Hope all of this helped answer some of the questions here on this Tread. Thanks,
Gene
depends i recon it prob does effect the value a bit.
if i decided to dip one of my bows it would be one that was a "keeper" so how it came out and its resale value would not bother me.
This is the same process they use for rifles/shotguns. I have a 15 year old 1187 that has been hunted with a LOT...the only place any of the finish is off is where I got careless with a belt sander :D
Just got this one back from Lonnie...he and John do super work at Sipsey River.

Is camo the only option? I was wondering about a bow dipped in flat black. Would work great for blinds and it it is as tough as stated wouldn't need to be touched up (like you would if you simply painted the bow black)...Mike
Lonnie told me that they are working on other options. I think that there is a carbon black riser....mark
gene, you are wondering who would dip a high end bow, hell i've painted them!that dipping is awesome!
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Looks good
Those are pretty cool looking bows! :D
Now THAT's a smart looking bow. Very, very cool looking IMO.
Looks awesome. Here is my buddies B.W. MA with a factory covering. The bow didn't make the cut so they covered it. Not sure if it was a bad wood grain or what but it came from the factory this way.
Do you mind me asking how much per bow? If so please send me a P.M.

The cost through Sipsey River right now is $125 for a take down and $100 for a 1 peice bow.
where can I find some info on getting that done on one of my bows so I can stop being so jealous LOL My girl friend is about ready to through me out over it LOL. Dave
Check out "Sipsey River" in the Sponsors Classifides here at T/G. John's a great guy to deal with.
Gene
I'd be afraid to put that thing down in the woods, might not find it again...PR
