Title: Help/wood arrows
Post by: MnFn on September 21, 2008, 07:05:00 PM
I have been trying to develope some consistancy in my shooting before I order some new arrows. (I shot for years and then quit for about ten years).
I recently bought a new recurve and thought I would try carbons, but results were inconsistant. I thought perhaps I had changed too many things at one time, so I decided to stay with some old Kustom King tapered cedars,530 grns. I draw 28.25" I am shooting a 55# @28 Kota recurve bow. The arrows are spined at 60-65#'s and are 29" long. They are about 20 years old. I am consistantly getting nock left @ 20 yards. The arrows have Zwickey two blade Delta's on them. I did put a pressure point under the sealskin on the bow riser, so I was thinking of removing that and seeing what happens. Other than that any suggestions?

You said you put a pressure plate on the riser, but did not say where on the riser and how thick. How deep is the shelf on the Kota, is it less than center, center or past center? Are the arrows 60-65 at AMO 28" or they spined at 29".

I think those wood arrows are a little week spined. Do they go where you point them or just a little right( if your a righty)check your knoc fit as well.

I had already open up the nock so they would release from the serving with a very slight tap of a finger. The pressure point is a strip of leather a 16th of an inch thick placed directly above the deepest part of the handle. I ordered the arrows a long time ago, my draw length at the time was 28" w/ an inch longer for broadheads for a 60# longbow. I don't know how they spined them.  The bow appears to be center shot.

I have to assume they are AMO spined which will be at 28" so at 29" they are 55/60 and with a center shot bow they will be underspined. Try increasing the thickness of the strike plate another 1/16". You say your draw length "At that time was 28" does that mean its different now? A longer draw length will increase bow weight. Also check you brace height.

Well, I removed the pressure point and the nocks have moved in the right direction. Now only slightly left.

Posted the last reply prior to seeing your response arrowmakr. Will experiment with that suggestion as well. It is windier out here today so may have to wait for better conditions. Thanks. Do you make arrows for sale also?
