We have a new early firearm doe season in MI. I am opposed to it, but rather than be bitter I thought I'd go give it a try on the opener. I like to start off with a doe anyway. Went to a stand close to the house. In fact it is in a white pine tree that I planted 18 years ago. Had a doe walk by an hour after daylight hit. Made a good shot and took up the trail after a short wait. Had to do a little wading at the end. :)

I never heard a gunshot while I was out, but it was on a thursday morning.
Nice Denny. A fat doe is a great way to start the season. Still enjoying that 3 under grip?
Congrats on a good start to the season Denny!!
Congrats Denny

Nice doe, getting the herd balanced is always a good thing.
Are you still using 3 under?

A good start on cooling her down there. Congrats.
Backstraps and tenderloins that night? Nice going...
Thanks guys. Yes on the 3 under.
herkimerhunter, LOL I thought about it though.
:)
Nice doe Denny. I have chosen not to participate in that hunt myself, as I too am opposed to it. Looks like you had a good time.

Good shooting, and from your own tree, thats great!!
Nice to see other Trad shooter out in the early "gun" season with a bow. I was supposed to be out tonight but had to work (I'm "working" right now). :bigsmyl:
But I think me and another Trad Ganger will be out in the morning with some stick and string action.
Good looking deer and in my opinion the best way to take a deer.
Hopefully I'll take my first Trad animal in the morning.
Josh
Good to see you scoring with a bow in a fire arm season.
good shootin' bud :notworthy:
Tasty!!!
Nothing like starting the season with meat in the fridg. Well done!!!!
Great shot. You make it sound/look easy. Congrats!
G'day Denny, and well-done! Is that bow tillered for 3-under? How long have you been shooting 3-under? My PLX is tillered for split, and I shoot 3-under just fine with it. All the best to you and yours for the rest of the season/s.
Hey Ben, I tried it for the first time at the end of June and decided it was for me. My bows are also standard tiller and seem to work fine.
Nice shooting Denny  congrats!!

Good shot Denny. If you would have been down here in the swamp you would have had to wrestle a big lizard for her.RC
Nice DOE & great story... what caliber fire arm is that?
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Good shot! Nice looking quiver too :D
Man, you sure don't waste any time putting meat in the freezer. Congrats!!!
Good arrow Denny! It's good to see you can still hunt with a bow during gun seasons in Michigan. Bow hunting is shut down during our gun seasons in all zones but a couple.
CONGRATULATIONS Denny!!!!!!!!!! :clapper:
I've been shooting 3under for about 5 years now.All of my bows are standard tillered also, but I raise my nock point about 5/8" above shelf height. It seems to quiet them down more.
Did you have to raise yours?????
:bigsmyl:
I skipped the early gun season. Thought about bow hunting, but I have a couple of new ground blinds set that I was afraid a buck would come in to if I hunted the doe season. Also, our youth hunt is this weekend, and didnt want to spoil it for my son. We both decided to wait. don't want to accidently spook any of the bucks before they are fair game. Plenty of time to shoot a doe, and we will.
Congrats Denny, nice fat Mich. meat doe ya got there. Great shot too.
Nice 'un there, Denny!!!
