Has any bowyers used this for bow wood in risers or laminations. I have access to a storm damaged Russian Olive tree. It is over 100 years old and is huge. I have no idea what it looks like when finished out.
Hi Jim,
It looks like real olive wood.
It could make nice bows, I saw laminated bows with superb veneers of RO wood, but just can't remember :(
Here is a link to see some:

Hope that helps,

Should make for some fantastic veneers!
Thats PURTY! Looks a little like spalted birch.

Jim check with RER, I've seen a couple of their bows with olive wood veeners, not sure if it's Russian olive though.
I have those veneers on my silvertip, they are very nice

Hi Guy's, I got a 36" piece, 14" diameter that was part of a limb. I had it cut in 2" slices. The piece I have looks exactly like the Silver tip picture. Its going to make some real nice veneers. It has a golden tone with a lot of figure. It will be a while before its dry enough to use. Thanks for all the information.
I talked to a guy you made a set of veneers of russian olive and he said it smells terrible when you work it. But it has a cool irridesence that makes it worth it.
