After much thought and research, I made a decision on my next bow and ordered a Shrew Samurai from Ron. :jumper: I have a whole year to wait, so post me your Shrew pics and shooting impressions of yours. Also welcome are any tips for a newbie. Thanks! ;)
OMG! Gotta wait a year. How are you gonna sleep at night? You will be a very happy camper when you get your new bow. Congrats! I own a "new to me" Super Shrew Gold and another "new to me" Original Shrew (circa '90s) and well... My other bows cry themselves to sleep at night cause they hardly come off the wall pegs now. Get the picture?
... mike ... :archer: ...
Thanks, Mike. Good start and really glad to hear you like them so much. It was a toss up for me between the SS Gold and Samarai...both are beautiful!
Tim,
If you order a take down Chameleon, they are all gauranteed to bring down one elk like this no extra charge. All I ever get with my Samurai is flying pheasants...

Here is my 56" SuperShrew longbow in the field(bagged two hogs that weekend with that shrew longbow) I also have a 54" "lit" favorite recurve. Both bows shoot like a dream I wish I had one or two more.

Found myself mulling it over for months and finally made the call early in the week to Ron for a SS Classic hunter 54" 56lbs @ 26" Chamelon brown. I'm really stoked!!
Beautiful bow, Eric! Cody, did you find one of the two easier or more natural to shoot? Congrats, Greg...looks like we'll be getting our bows days apart. :archer:
I think there's one in stock on his site.

never mind- its sold

I think with my two bows the Supershrew longbow is alittle easier to shoot for accuracy than the 54" Lit Favorite Recurve, but the Recurve is two inches shorter than my SuperShrew so that may be the difference not the bow designs. The recurve is alittle faster and more compact I am looking forward to shooting it this spring out of a DB blind for turkey. I was out blunting stuffed animals around the yard this evening, yes I said stuffed animals like you buy for your kids. I had no problem hitting the small ones out to 25 yards with both bows great pratice it really test your shooting ability.
Tim, Im sharing the excitement with you. Shot a couple during the 3-d seaon this year and there in a different class in my opinion. Been building on bows for 4 years and havent made anything even close. Rons the man!!!Shrews the bow!!
im looking for a lefty bout 60 lbs if you see one for sale .
Nice Bow Mark!!!! I hope to see that this winter on the range, that looks like a beaut!!!!
Any luck this season???????
That tears it! Now I'm going to have to get my hands on one. I've been trying to decide what to buy and everything points towards a Shrew fitting my requirements.
But, I think I'll have to find one on the classifieds. I don't have the attention span to wait a year. :knothead:
That Super Shrew on Ron L.'s website only lasted a couple of hours. I'm glad I have a Shrew coming. I am going to get on the list for another so I will have three in the cue.
Allan
Here are a few that I own. This should make the year fly by!!
First is my 58" Scout Recurve Cocobola and Birdseye Maple riser and Tamo Ash limb Veneers.

Here are my other 3 at deer camp last year. The one with the quiver on it is a 58" Samurai, the light colored one is a 54" Classic Hunter all Osage, and the dark one is a 54" Lil' Favorite.

Hope that is enough to get you started. As you can tell these bows are great. In my opinion you cannot find a better shooting bow.
Mike do you sleep with your Shrews? Never mind. I think I know...Tdog
:saywhat:
Wow, Tim...what a collection! Especially love that tulipwood. Great pic of your Osage in the snow, Bob. Geeze, a year is sounding really long now. :help:
I ordered one (classic hunter)with carbon limbs. Anyone think that was a mistake? The riser will be mostly osage and of course the carbon limbs are black. Cost +$100. Now I am second guessing whetrher it will be pretty, loud, etc.
No experience with carbon..... but I offer the following:
(1) I Don't think Ron/Gregg would sell/produce something that wasn't first rate.
(2) see #1 above.....
BobW
I have shot one of the Carbon Classics and they are great bows. Even smoother that the non carbons (if that is possible) and still whisper quiet. I think you will like your Shrew with or without the carbon so which ever way would be fine.
Tim-which one is your favorite?
His next one..... :biglaugh:

:biglaugh: Nice one Bob!!!
You know I am not really sure I have a favorite one. I thought the Samurai was, then the Lil' Favorite took over when I started shooting that for Turkey season, now the 58" Scout is pretty close. So I think it is the bow that I am shooting is my favorite. That is the nice thing about owning different bows with the same grip. You can switch all you want and it doesnt seem to affect your shooting.
I've had a shrew long bow for 13 months. My posts are the last two in 2007 high lights, A 5x5 elk and a news years eve white tail. Also a spring bear in 2008 high lights. I love my shrew long bows (got 2)
Joe
This is the 54" "Lil Favorite" that I just got from Tim Fishell. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/Hunting2008020.jpg)
Well almost like BobW's, mines got stag tips. Ron put her in the mail today.
Eric
Congrats, Eric...don't forget to post some pics when you get her.
Ordered a Classic Hunter earlier this week ... for those really *tight* antelope BLIND hunts. :D
I dunno why I'd be laughing - I'm still agonizing over that speed goat miss in Wyoming. Ack!
Good looking picture of that Shrew Jim. Glad to see it is in good hands!!

"Good looking picture of that Shrew Jim. Glad to see it is in good hands!!"
Thanks Tim.We went for a walk today. It's as fun to carry as it is to shoot.I also sat in an antelope blind for a couple hours this morning.Three bucks waltzed by at 25 feet but I only have a doe tag.I'm dying to take a shot with this thing. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/Hunting2008028.jpg)
Really like those arrows, Jim...what kind/color are they? They look too bright to be red.
Thanks to all for pics of your Shrews...wish I could say that it will make the year go by quicker. :banghead: ;)
I have two Super Shrews, the first is what Ron called a "Red- Line" its 56" Grey action wood with a grey laminated riser with a red strip of glass [like the widow's] running full length between the lams 56# @ 27 [58 1/2 @ 28 where I use it]. Bow #2 is a Super Shrew "SP" 58" 55#@28 Brown Action Wood with brown Diamond Wood Riser which you will never see, as it's at Sipsy River as I write being camo dipped. Can't wait to get it back. Has anyone else ever had a the ca_ones to have theirs dipped ? and If so how did you like the results?
Gene
BLASPHEMY!!!!!!! Someone call the Shrew Police!!!!
I have two Shrew Calssic Hunters and my wife has the Shrew Deluxe. To me there is no need to own another bow unless I get a take down Classic Hunter :D

Jeff, if you ordered it now you should have it for hunting season next year. :readit: ... ... :biglaugh:

Red Boar, those are swaged,2216 Easton Legacys. The arrows were made by Kustom King several years ago and are red.
A happy man is he who sets forth to the swamp with a Shrew!!! We have 4 of them in this house, and although I truly love the silence and simplicity of the Shrew longbows, my favorite is the Li' Favorite recurve. Compact, quick, quiet, to me it is the ultimate hunting bow. I am SO excited that our bowseason starts in a couple of weeks. My Shrew has been staring at me from the wall for months, only being taken down a few times a week to stretch her limbs. The deer woods is where she belongs!!!!
Thanks, Jim. Great looking bow, Konrad. Now I am having second thoughts about the Samurai with so many great comments about the Lil' Favorite.
Hey Ron I was just about to do that when I lost all my mad money in the stock market the other day :biglaugh:
no close ups but there's a bit of the shrew in action! love my shrew, everything i want in a hunting bow!

Art Vincent, traditional leather crafter just called me and said he was in a bind and had to sell his Super Shrew Samurai. He said it's like new, specks are, RH, 58", 46#@ 28" with Stag Tip overlays. The Samurai has all bamboo limbs with a Kingwood riser.
Give Art a call at 615 351-5220
Arts bow has been sold
Did RB buy it? :scared:
I'll post a new picture of my old Samurai in the morning. It made meat out of a 250 pound black bear tonight. I had a coveted Michigan Baldwin unit tag (2,200 hunters applying for 70 tags). I had the maximum number of preference points after 8 years of applying. It would take 30 years to get drawn again, so I wouldn't want any bow in my hands except my Samurai. It's now taken the Michigan Slam (deer, bear and turkey) since I got it in the fall of 1999. The bear made it 30 yards after the shot.
Ray,
Congratulations on the bear. I talked to your wife this evening and she said you were out bear hunting. I sent you an email telling you I hoped you would get a bear. I am glad to hear you did! I will look forward to getting your old Shrew Lite. Gregg tells me it was the ninth Shrew he built and now he is on number 248. Enjoy the thrill of completing the Michigan Slam!
Take care,
Allan
Congrats Ray! :clapper:
Congrats Ray!!!
WTG, Ray! Can't wait to see the pics.
Here's Rays bear taken with his 55# Samurai. It looks like he's pretty happy....Ray, not the bear. :D

Nice bear  :archer: :clapper:
Thanks guys. I am a happy camper. I had great friends that helped me all along the way with this one. It makes it all the more special.
I have to explain the limb socks on the bow. My bow was made when Ron was using a shinier finish on his bows. My bear stand was right on the edge of a thick and nasty swamp. I was well covered with a pine tree, except on the upwind side which was the west. We've had clear sunny days and the setting sun was hitting me for the last two hours of daylight and I was fearful a bear eyeing me over from the security of the swamp might see the glare. Anyway, you have to love it when a plan comes together. :D :D :D
Awesome!!
Beautiful bear, Ray. Congrats!!! :clapper:
Way to go Ray. Mike
Good looking bows and some nice animals as well!
