Title: Muzzy Grasshoppers??
Post by: Dogboy900 on September 17, 2008, 02:51:00 AM
I bought some Muzzy Grasshopers ([urlhttp://www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=111/182.0.1932.10091.0.0.0[/url]) to go in behind my 2 blade Magnus Snuffers for shooting bunnies, but when the grasshopper is behind the head the threads do not make contact enough to screw in.
I have tried it with my FMJ's, XX75's, and Easton carbons.
They will screw in behind a field point but only about 2 turns of the thread.

Has anybody used these and can offer some advice?

They are advertised as being able to be used behind broadheads but do Muzzy broadheads have extra long threads or something?

I think it maybe a problem with the thread length on the broadhead or broadhead adaptor more so then the grasshopper.  The grasshopper portion that slips of the threaded end of a point is on .160 in lenght and still should allow for pleny of thread engagement with most normal points.  They have been around for a long time and many on here have used them for years with broadheads and target points.  Our new SG-X has a tip adaptor with a longer threaded shank on it that will compensate for the thickness of the grasshopper and offer more thread engagement in the insert.
Measure your thread length on your broadhead and compare that to a field point and see if there is a difference.  Good luck, Mark

You are right, its the broadhead adaptors that have a short thread on them.

I might still have a play around and see if I can make them work together.

Thanks

It is the broadhead. I use 2 brass weight ring behind the broadhead and a Magnus of any kind is the only one that will not work. The part whith the threads on it is too short.

If you can get a few turns on the threads use some lok tite and that will help keep them in place.
