My boy started this year just after his 5th birthday.  We won the Mother's Day drawing and he received a Maddog Pup Recurve 12lb@20".  He was able to shoot it without assitance within 5 or 6 sessions.  The pic is during his first practice.

Michael, I started my grandson when he was two. I made him a bow out of a piece of oak flooring. here we are working on form and potty training.

At ATAR two years ago I got him an Elk Ridge 13@16. John Dill made a custom quiver for it. This  was after a shoot this past summer in Kernnersville.

Just keep em close to the target and keep it fun and they'll love it. Don

Mike,

My daughters on the ends started at three with an old Darton recurve.  My grandaughter started at three with a Black Rhino.  She's 4 1/2 now and still shooting the Rhino.  My daughter on the left is holding a Lofton longbow and has a Thunder Mountain coming shortly.  The one on the right is shooting a Wild Horse Creek longbow.

My boy started at 3 with a Crimson Mist bow and now shoots a Maddog Pup. If they show an interest and you have a place that's safe for them then get them out there.

My son loves to go with me to practice shooting my bow in the yard.  He carries my arrows for me.  He is 3 now.  I was looking at the Maddog pups and wondering if he will be getting one soon.  From the sound of you guys, he just might.  His sister is not as enthusiastic about it as he is but she is coming around.

When I got home from work today, the kids where getting a nap.  I slipped of to the deer woods.  I got back and my son started crying because he didnt get to go hunting.  He was very upset.  I cant wait until he is old enough to go hunting with me.

Thanks for the pics guys!!

I started my son and my daughter with a black rino bow at 2 1/2 to 3.  My son is now 6 and does great.  The biggest thing is to just let them have fun and get them started on all the safety aspects of it.  My son does great on the 3d course and will be awsome by the time he is 10 or 12.  There is something about seeing my 4 year old daughter in her princess dress with a quiver straped on shooting her longbow.

My son started very young. But we didn't start working on form much until he was about 8. Below is him at age 8 and the video clip is him (age 13) taken at the Hawkeye Shoot this past August. Yes, he switched from right to left.

My daughter-in-law was six months pregnant when I bought my unborn grandson his first bow.  I wanted to be sure it was ready when he was.
