Title: BOW REPAIR HELP! ! !
Post by: KILLER B on September 16, 2008, 04:11:00 PM
Hello all i have an old Ben pearson stallion that one of my friends had hanging in his garage.  The fiberglass on the one tip has been busted and is separateing from the laminations benieth.  I was wondering how and if i can fix this for him?  I was thinking about spreading the crack and filling superglue as deep into the separation as possible and clamping it back together.  Any one tried this or have a better idea?  Thanks...

Tried super glue once on a crack I made clamping my riser overlays on. Total failure!! Wish I would have used the epoxy, my impatience got the best of me.

Thats what the 3/8" crack became on the first draw!

I didn't put any superglue in it last night.  My better judgement got the best of me and i went over to lowes and got some epoxy.  Don't remeber the name of it but it is just a general mix up style. Is it the right kind?? Or do i need to use the fiberglass resin? Thanks...

Yeah, the two part epoxy glue is the stuff, not fiberglass resin. Work it in the best you can, clamp it (not TOO tight) and let it cure overnight. I'll bet it works.

Hello,

I recently bought my first Ben Pearson Cougar that has some superficial scratches and peeling.  Any advice on the safest way to take care of those?  I've had mixed advice on whether or not to re-finish it with a type of urethane.  Or might some light sanding and wax do the job?  Thanks-

RVG, unless you're equipped to spray a catalyzed finish I would suggest you overlook the surface blemishes and try to wear it out by shooting it.

Yes i did.  Shot it about a hundred times and noticed the glue line turning white.  I unstrung it and had it setting for a few days came back to it and it has separated again.  I am going to clean the epoxy off and find something that i can realy get it down in the cracks with.  Hope i can get it to hold i have already promised the guy who owns it that i would trade it for an osage selfbow i will be making later this winter.
