Let me tell you how bad the chiggers are in Georgia. It's 2:40am and instead of sleeping, I'm awake putting alcohol on the 100 or so chigger bites I have that are itching me to death!
AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGG>>>
i know what thats like bro. bloddy chiggers they are the devil!!!
I spent a lot of "quality time" with chiggers in the swamps on Ft. Stewart when I was in the Army. I can sympathise.
Sorry to hear that Biggie. I have felt your anguish - there's one spring where the boars are big and they can flamin'-well die of old age (or from Dave's longbow - they don't like my mate Dave). All the best!
Hey Biggie, have you ever heard of collodal(sp) silver, you can pick it up at a health food store put some in a small spray bottle, 1 spray of this stuff and let it dry and the itch will go away in a day or 2. I live in NE Oklahoma and believe me I know what your going thru. Good Luck
Tea Tree oil. Stops the itching immediately. Grocery store or Wally World should have it.

Never heard of it. I sure will look for it though, it could be a life saver!

This year I'm trying the Permanone. I'm spraying my Catquiver, boots, pants, everything. I despise them little pain in the butts.
An once of prevention...
My good friend suggested the follofing treatment to me. I just haven't drawn up the courage to do it yet. Drink a shot of vinegar every night before you go to bed. In a matter of a week or two, they'll leave you alone. But to keep the effect you have to keep drinking the vinegar.
Biggie, you are not alone....they got me and my son last weekend.
RayMO
...and so begins the next two weeks of scratching.
Thats one thing you guys in the south have that I'm HAPPY we dont....Now the hogs are a different story.
Those things OWN my archery club! Only thing that helps after the fact is soaking in a bath of Chiggerex for a week.

ONE WORD- PERMANONE.
Put your britches over a railing outside, and spray the cuffs/calves and the waistline, let it dry.
Fear NO CHIGGERS.
Well I'd say I'm glad I'm not the only one but that would be less than friendly.
I get them all the time but this time I must have sat down in a nest. Most miserable night I've ever spent besides the 2 days I spent in Iowa, snowed in, in a motel room with the Wensels .........between the snoring and the methane, I nearly didn't make it
Biggie, go in the laundry room and get the jug of Clorox bleach.. Rub a bit on the bites and the itching will go away pronto...
CLOROX
CLOROX
Wipe it on the bites!
Biggie I swear a chiggar will hitchhike across three states to get me. Permanone works pretty good; works on turkey mites too. I feel for you- speedy recovery. Grant
Biggie, when a chigger looks at you, it's like you looking at a big mac! Fast food!!!
Makes me glad I live in the north.
It does not at all sound like a pleasant experience.
Biggie,
Now you know why I don't go into the woods until after a couple of good frosts, or preferably a good freeze! Chiggers eat me up when no one else gets even one bite! :(
Bill
Chiggers don't fly and I thank God every day for that!
They make me mad.
Before going into an area where chiggers are present I protect mylself by using a repellent but it's not enough.
Had em once in the Army at Benning....never want em again. I dont know how well it works, but the DS's told us to put nail polish over the area to close the pores of our skin, which would suffocate the chiggers. Of course, we couldnt buy any, or possess it, so I never knew how well it works....lmao.
Hope you can sleep soon.
The chiggars have been horrible this year, but at least the mosquitoes are not too bad, but good night, what's the deal with the gnats? They are absolutely horrible and just bug me to death, always trying to fly in my eyes, they are about to drive me insane! Not the tiny biting ones but the bigger black ones that just annoy your! Mark
Prevention is the key with chiggers. I wipe down with a water and bleach solution once back home. You gotta keep them from burrowing into the skin. Bleach water will kill them. Permanone and bleach
Strap a flea collar around each ankle and your set. Not kidding.

Sounds like a good idea,I'll try :)
the itching you feel is a mosquito bite but worse. contrary to popular belief chiggers DO NOT bury themselves in your skin. its actually the mite larvae excreting a sumstance that liquifies skin sell that they eat up. Use what you would for any other itch, calamine lotion, or I've found that the Dermoplast first aid spray works wonders on itchy bites. do a google for "red bugs" or "chiggers".

That site also warns about flea collars on the ankles, which can cause chemical burns on bare skin.
I have no idea what «chiggers» are but one thing most people don't know when it comes to mosquito bites is that taking antihistamines helps. I use Claritin for allergies (hay fever) and I realized that the mosquito and black fly bites are much less of a problem when you take an over the counter antihistamine.
Kope this helps.
I use powdered sulphur on my pantlegs and around waist area when scouting during hot weather . This works very well for chiggers. I keep a sock full in my truck for just such occasions. This does not help at all once the little devils are on your bod.Glad to hear about various ways to beat the itch. I will check out the Tea Tree oil today. Thanks for sharing.
Biggie, listen to Ray. That permanone is magic. It is odorless after it dries and lasts on the clothes for at least a few washings. It works incredibly well. And yeah, they got the #^*% things here in the sand of NJ too.
preparation H really try it
releives swelling and itching on them too
I don't need it now as we don't have those nasty buggers herre-but i get them whem i hunt in MO
South Texas born and raised, I know all about them little devils. They crawl up your leg and gather (you know where guys). Drive you crazy. Best thing I found is clear nail polish over each red dot. Then scratch for a week untill they are gone. :)
Biggie I used Orasol. I got it at Rite Aid pharmacy. It is an oral anesthetic/antiseptic. the pharmacist recommended it and it worked for me. I just put a dab over each bite when needed.
I feel your pain.
Jack
Those dang little buggers just love me. I have used the powdered sulpher with good results in the past but now use Permanone. If I even think I was near a chigger area I mix a little Clorox in with my bath water as soon as I get home. You smell like chlorine for a while but at least you aren't miserable from itching.
We had an infestation of straw itch mies a few years ago that just about drove everyone nuts. Nothing would keep them off of you.
Hope your healing is quick.
Dennis
I have felt your pain Biggie, both with the red bugs and closed up with a couple of old farts sawing wood. I treat red bugs (chiggers) with Rid shampoo, a head lice treatment, works for me.
The preparation H is basically a topical cortisone so yes it will help with the itch and inflamation.
Treating the outer layer of clothing with permanone has stopped the red bugs and ticks for me. We are loaded with both here in SC as I am sure you are in GA.
That is tough Biggie, we have them bad around here too but not lately. I have only had a couple this year.
Funny story when I was young 12-13 my Mom drove me to a rock road to drop me off so I could go hunting. I told her "you sit here under this pine I'll be back in awhile" hour or so later I was back, went home and the next day she was EAT UP with chiggers. had to go to the doctor and all. COurse doctor laughed! gave her lotion. She has never set foot in the woods since then.
Hope they calm down soon,
J
Try chigger-rid helps after the fact. CAN GET IT OVER THE COUNTER.
waitin on 15 Oct. !!!!!!!!
Biggie,
Look on the bright side...all your stands are up in Iowa, so you don't have to be dealing with Poison Ivy like I am from my time in the rain there last weekend!
Biggie,
That just sux's man! Sorry to hear about your bug problems...here I've been lementing living out west and wishing I could come back east someplace and hunt. We don't have those kinds of bug challenges in Nevada.
Guess I'll just stay put.
Biggie.......You big dam sissy!....bo up......
Big see if you can get ahold of either benedryl cream or hydrocortisone cream , rub on to affected areas and it will STOP the itch, so will cornmeal in water .dab it on then shower it off .(free nursing advice to a trad Brother fron a trad brother who is a practical nurse too).

Biggie: I bet you're really itchy right about now. Wouldn't it feel great to scratch? Man.. I love to scratch when I itch. I heard if you scratch hard enough those buggers won't itch anymore. I'm not itchy at all right now though. I know you aren't supposed to scratch them, but I bet it'd really feel good. Go ahead... do it. xoxo bw
Good advice right there! They won't stop itching until you scratch the tops off of the bumps and get all the juice out. Takes a few sessions, too, cause they'll keep seepin', and then you gotta rake those clear globs off the tops and let 'em drain again. Think of those scabs as corks, holding the itch in.
Killdeer :goldtooth:
I`m with JoeBuck on this one. SISSY.RC
Take some steel wool and use that to scratch with. THEN give em a DRINK of that alchol :scared:
That's what I'm talkin about :smileystooges:
Biggie, you will feel a lot better if you use the alcohol internally instead of externally.
If it makes you feel any better, Biggie, biting a human is death for chiggers. They can only digest cellulose. Protein is a death sentence.
Biggie,
Did you get the chiggers the same place that you got your truck n trailer stuck? LOL

I bought every solution you guys suggested and put it all on and in. Now I have second degree burns on my legs and I'm feeling a little tipsey......but the itching is gone!
:-) hiccup
I got either chiggers or seed tick bites a few years ago that were so bad I could cover (by actual count) 32 on either ankle with one hand. They were up both legs like this and some higher up too! A friend said to get in a tub of hot water with as much epsom salt as you could get disolved in it. (This is the part you will enjoy) scratch them until they bleed then let the saturated salt water draw the poison out of the bites. I couldn't afford THAT much epsom salt so I modified the process. I scratched each one until it was raw (that's fun) then I applied a few crystals of epsom salt and a small drop of water. I did this while watching TV and actually let it stay there until it dried. I was so bad I would go to bed with the salt on my body. You've heard that expression "She could eat crackers in my bed anytime". Believe me it was better than itching as bad as I was. It wasn't fun but it did help greatly and I scabbed up and healed without further itching. At the point I did this I had been itching for about two weeks. Try it and send me a nickel if it works. I'm getting ready to retire!
The first night I discovered I had them, I went to the general store at Jewel, GA and asked the lady about what to do. She said to use straight chlorox on them. While there a pulpwooder came in and told me he used two drops of turpentine orally daily and "they "didn't bother him. I bought a bottle of each, and I had a fifth of Black Jack in camp. Right before I went to sleep I was taking equal swigs of all three. Try a few hundred of these %^$@ on you at one time and you might, just might, understand. I was anesthetized when I went to sleep, but it didn't last long. Good luck and don't forget my nickel!
Straight Clorox is the ticket for me when I get the chiggers..
Did you try it Biggie ?
Tea Tree Oil? I bought a 2 oz bottle at pharmacy in Walmart for $5.95. Put it on some chiggar bites I picked up on Saturday in Oklahoma while scouting. Applied the oil this morning with a que tip. Itching has stopped. I am a believer. Thanks for the tip.
I just got back from scouting and hanging stands in southern Ohio and I am covered from my knees to my toes in chigger bites! I have been using clorox and it helps for a few hours at a time but the itching comes back. I think I'll give the tea tree oil a try.
Skyler and I try to stay away from them but Summertime 3-D shoots, Stump shooting, Deer Scouting, Food Plot Planting, Fishing, ETC.....They are a terrible part of our life that we can't seem to completely avoid....Permanone is the best thing we've used as a preventive....Clorox is best after the fact, scratch it till it bleeds then pour on the bleach and hang on....A Word of CAUTION...4 WEEKS ago while planting food plots, I got eat up by the things. I waited a few days about doing anything about them except scrathing,,,a bite on the back of my leg got sore and seemed infected and getting worse by the hour..Went to the DR. and had a staff(sp) infection...Anti biotic injections and 10 days of pills that could choke a horse....Be Careful! Don and Skyler
