Title: Woodsman BH hissing
Post by: ISP 5353 on September 14, 2008, 08:36:00 PM
I have some Woodsman broadheads that I had planned to hunt with this year.  They are very accurate.  They were difficult to sharpen and I did take quite a bit of metal off.  The problem I have is that they make a hissing noise in flight.  I have checked to see if they are straight and they are.  Has anyone else found a way to quiet them down?

Yep, mine hiss too. Found no way to fix it short of slathering the BHd in vaseline, which I don't care to do. Still using mine - gonna buy another pack and see if they hiss as well.

I had a 47# lb and they did not make noise, now i have a 62# lb that is a bit faster and they made noise. At the back of the broad head where it comes out from the shaft at a 90deg the front edge i filed at a 45deg angle on both sides like a knife edge, one to try to help noise and two like dr. ashby said that part will be caught by the meat you are trying to go through and slow it down. I cant buy new broad heads so i tried to make it work this way.     I dont know how it will work on penetration but it did make the broad head quiet
