Anybody familiar with the area? It looks like I'm going to be moving to the Cortez area in the very near future. How's the hunting? Any tradgangers nearby?
Was just there Tuesday. Nice little town on the edge of the desert and the mountains. One of the very few towns in Co I could live in. Never hunted the area but dont think you'll have to go far to be in the critters.

I am camped in the mountains about 40 miles from Cortez and that is where we go for supplies every few days. Cortez is a very friendly and clean small town. It has a very large city park, much bigger than most towns it's size. Plenty of room for kids to play. It has about anything most people would need. If you are a small town person, I would highly recommend it.
Lance, You should like it I think. It is near the four corners and southwest Co. is some great hunting. Delores, CO is not far as I recall and there is good hunting there and to the north and west of it. Google Circle K Ranch in Delores, Co and I think you will see some nice country. The Lone Cone is a great area to hunt too! I hunted there and rode from Norwood, CO to Cortez through the National Forest. You can get lost. I did, but is beautiful country. Right in Cortez it's kinda like desert but the Mtn's are not far as I recall. It is near Mesa Verde National Park.
Its cheaper then Durango thats for sure! Not a bad place, the little city does have its share of problems (lots of people cross through there) but the outer edges are A ok.
Man did I do a double-take on this post. You are gonna love that area. It'll be a big change from Ga, but I'd imagine you are going to have a ball. I've been out there a few times and elk hunted nearby two years ago. Fine country for a hunter to live in. Sounds like you are a lucky man. Tge
Nice area. Durango is nearby for major shopping, and some of the prettiest country in Colorado is north of there.
I love that four corners area, it is my favorite area in CO. to elk hunt having taken two in that area over the years.

This place is sounding better by the minute. As much as I hate moving, I'm thinking this time it will definately be for the best.

I bowhunted Mulies there back in '93. I loved the area, the small town of Mancos is nearby. Good mulie area...just have to be careful not to cross over on the Ute Indian Reservation when hunting...The best part was my tour of the Mesa Verdi National Park...home to the Anaszi Indians, Cliff Dwellers. Awesome place to visit and spend 4 hrs....Durango and Pagosa Springs close by...
Passed through there this past summer. I didn't get to spend too much time in the area, but I loved what I saw.
Mesa Verde is an awesome place. Take it in, for all it's worth. It really takes you back in time.
I was there(Cortez)a few years ago. Consider yourself a lucky individual.
