hey i was wondering what you guys in the states etc use on sharks. i'm going to have a go with this home modified garpoon point and an 8" handline on the bow. i machined an 11/32" taper and tapped the rear to screw on the garpoon then added a light 100gr tusker spirit to complete my 'shark arrow'. btw, no floats.

Looks deadly, Clint! All the best with it!
One tough looking, shark slaying set-up you have there...
You better have a few hundred meters of line on that spool or that shark will swim of with all your gear. I've never shot a shark before, but have caught a few on pole and line, and they put up a great fight. Some buddies of mine arrow them frequently in Louisiana (1.5-3m in length), and they say that floats are a must.
I like your setup by the way, I had a similar set up for dispatching gar a few years ago...works great. Good luck with your quest and go get'um
trouble is it's a bit hard to use floats when you shoot them off the beach. most blokes up here seem to get away with using heaps of line. dunno, going to have to give it a go and find out.
Take a bunch of pics when you put into action. Pretty nasty looking set-up. I like it.
That head just looks vicious. If you can you should try for some video of your hunt.
Good luck
just be careful picking the shark up by the mouth! lol pics will be great. looking forward to em.
How about tying the tail end of your line to a big reel of sorts...kind of like Howard Hill did in his video, Fishing with a bow and arrow. That way you can make your shot and a buddy of yours can hold the rod and reel until the bow spool is empty and then just switch and have fun reeling in your shark. I wish we could shoot them here in Texas, I know of some spots with lots of 3m+ bull shark roaming around. Once again good luck and have fun
