It's raining hard this morning here in West Michigan so I decided to organize some of my hunting gear. Then it hit me, my hunting partner for many years will not be with me this year. My son Patrick joined the Army last November 19th and is now station in Korea.
I don't know about you other dads, but when Patrick and I started getting our gear together it usually turned into a "discussion" about missing or broken gear or ...those are my gloves and ...dad you're too fat to wear those pants anymore so I'll wear 'em. Good natured stuff like that.
I knew I would miss the hunting part but I didn't realize how much I would miss the little things like the preparation. So to all of you mom and dads enjoy every bit before they leave the nest.
Oh ya, has anyone seen my wool socks?

He will be with you in spirit. Im very gratful that he is fighting for our freedom...My hats off to your son, and if ya want to talk.PM me....Now go find your socks! :biglaugh:
Dam those kids... you get so attached to them and then they just leave. Makes ya want to yell at them if you weren't so proud of what they've become.
Young men like your son make this country a wonderful place to live. I know you are proud of him. God Bless.
... mike ...

From an "old vet."
Thank you for your sacrifice, thank your son as well.
You must be really proud of your son, because I am! Good job Dad!
I am sure you miss him. Outstanding young man I'm sure. Thanks to him and all our military for taking care of us.
Bob,
Looks like you did a fine job raising him. Says a lot for him to step up and wear a uniform these days.
I know it seems strange when they leave the nest and every little thing seems to trigger a memory. But it is those moments in their life that help shape their beliefs, attitude, and personality.
You will always have the memories of doing these things with your son. Hang on to them, and cherish them. Military service has a strange effect on our sons. You will hunt with your son again, But next time he will be a man.
Been there.
He is making us proud by serving our country, make him proud by killing a big buck (and by fitting in those old pants) :D H-Minus
I lost My Son to a 5' Blue eyed Blonde Girl this year. I'll miss having Him with Me this Year also.
Thank Your son for what He does for all of Our country. You have a great season! bretto
I know that feeling. The Army has my boy too and last year we only had one day of hunting together. This year it will be none as he heads for Iraq in a few short weeks.
Two weeks ago I spent a great time on AZ Kaibab hunting deer with my best friend in the world.... but something was missing and I know who it was.
THANKS Bob and Canyon for doing a good job with your sons. We need men who will stand for what is right.
