Title: Prob is here, but single bevel...
Post by: MOstate on September 12, 2008, 06:45:00 PM
Hi, I'm kinda new to traditional archery and I was wondering how to get a really sharp edge on my Zwickey No Mercy single bevel. They are 165grns, right bevel if that helps. And I guess another question, anyone use a thunderhead type broadhead?
Thank you, Joe

I use a Lansky/Gatco type sharpener.  I added an additional "slot" on mine to get the bevel right on my Grizzlies.  Lot of folks are good enough to free hand them with a file....but I'm sharpenly challenged.  Good luck.  Oh, make sure you dress the "flat" edge on a stone or file to make sure it is flat with no burrs.  Makes a lot of difference getting single bevels scary sharp.

File them until you get a burr on the off side then lightly file the burr off that back side. Keep alternating very lightly with the file.. You might progress to a stone or smooth steel then strop with leather. That should get you a shaving edge..
