Title: Easton Axis 400 arrows
Post by: carparcher on September 09, 2008, 10:07:00 PM
Anyone out there hunt w/ these shafts?  They fly fantastic, but are only 9 gr/inch.  I bought some weight tubes, but the arrows don't seem to fly that well w/ them inside.  Anyone had any success/lack of success using them?  I know Fred Eichler has seemed to do well w/ them in his videos, but I don't know if he is adding anything to the shafts for weight.

100 grn brass inserts from 3 Rivers. I use them and they are deadly accurate. Also use the Axis 500 for my lighter weight bows.

If you want more weight, you could go with the FMJs or the Beman MFX Classics (woodgrain)...they are about 10.5 in the 400s, but it isn't going to amount to a hill of beans...30 grains is five $1 bills stacked together.  You are fine.

Like limbow I use the 400 with a 100 grain insert and a 175 broadhead and they fly great. My finished arrow is 515 grains.

I am shooting the Axis FMJ 340's out of my 57 lbs ferret. I use a 100 grain insert as limbow said from 3rivers. They are coming out to weigh 600gr almost exactly. I have a ACS CX that I just tuned up some 400s for and it loves them. I dont remember the weight that I had on those though. I had to keep them a little longer than I might have wanted but they fly like darts. I have not have any problems with  they seem to be tough as rocks. I have shot one or two rocks and they lived.

They are a little pricy though.

I know that Fred Eichler does use a 100 grain muzzy brass insert sometime. I think it was his polar bear where he is showing them on the video. He is the one that talked me into the FMJs.

My 400s with brass insert, 100 grain broadhead adaptor and the 125 Ace head weigh in at 660 grains. I also have some with the aluminum adaptor and I think they weigh in at 571, including broadhead. I like the heavier ones best.

Had the same problem, they hate weight tubes I think. I just shoot without them, I have 260 up front and get great flight. Not quite the weight I want but they are flying good so I am leaving well enough alone. I literally tried everything before determining it was weight tubes causing bad flight. I shotting 55# 64" silvertip recurve if that matters.
