Title: My daughter is starting!
Post by: Lawrenceu on September 08, 2008, 05:31:00 PM
I'm psyched!  My daughter who will turn 13 in a few days has taken a real shine to archery.  She has watched me for years and recently asked to start shooting.  I didn't have a bow whose weight was suitable, but the other day I was given a PSE Sequoia.  It is a 55# bow, but she was able to draw it to a full, for her draw.  Even with my heavy shafts and her underweight draw she showed a real knack.  So, today I picked up a Bear bow with a 25# draw for her to learn with while I make a hunting weight bow for her for when she is ready.  I am so excited to share this sport with her.  She doesn't know that she is getting this bow tonight.

I can't wait . . .

That is so cool I can tell you from personal experience that there is no greater joy than taking one of your kids hunting good on you and keep up the good work

It is a great feeling to pass on the tradition. Who says girls can't hunt with Dad !!!!

Here is a picture of my daughter with her first deer. She used a selfbow that she helped make and arrows she made by herself.

That's cool! My daughter is 9 and has been shootin' for about 3 years now. She doesn't shoot as much as I would like but I'm not gonna push. She is the reason I got into trad. She started with a LB and kept saying "Dad get a LB and shoot with me" (I was shooting a wheel bow). I got my first LB soon after and got her, her first wheel bow a couple of months later. Neadless to say all three of my wheelies are gone and her wheelie is as new and for sale. We have had some of the greatest times together at the shoots and soon in the stand and I can't wait! As we all know, forget about the girl thing, I've seen Killy shoot at WV.

My little girl is 3 and loves to shoot (or just sit and watch us).    She is always wanting to go hunting with me and her big brother.    I cant wait until she can go and hunt with a bow.  (http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n140/702plmo/lani3.jpg)

I thought I'd post an update.

We ended up waiting until my daughter's actual birthday to give her the bow.  After we'd had some cherry pie and ice cream (her preference over birthday cake) we gave her the bow, arrows, and accouterments.  She was overwhelmed and wanted to go shoot.  So, outside we went.  I gave her some form tips, she lined up, and POP! from five yards her first shot was in the 9 ring.  I wish I had a picture of the grin she shot to my wife and me.

Since then we've been shooting together as often as my schedule will allow.  She takes the bow out on her own when she gets done with her chores and school work.  She's gotten pretty good at nailing leaves on the ground and has had some very close shots on squirrels. She's had to really concentrate on her bow arm alignment as her elbow is double jointed. But, she's getting it.  She's already wanting me to build her a bow she can hunt with, So, I know what my next project is going to be.  :)

I can hardly wait to get her out in the woods with me.

Archery is a wonderful family activity. And hunting with your kids is an order of magnitude better!! Best of luck with the young huntress!
