Title: Broadhead tunning???
Post by: Dozer on September 08, 2008, 04:00:00 PM
I'm shootin POC with a 10" taper and 145gr field point up front. What I'd like to know is if you fellas find that buying the same weight broadhead as field point gets you good flight with proper alignment of broadhead to the shaft, or do you find that the lenght of the broadhead causes you to reduce its weight? I'm intersted in the 2 blade Eclipse but don't want to blow money away on the wrong weighted BH's.

I shoot the same weight two blade Zwickey as field points.

When tuning my arrows to the bow I only do so shooting broadheads. I shoot broadheads 99% of the year. The only way to know is to glue on the heads and see what happens.
I changed to the broadhead tuning meathod just for this reason. When you get a broadhead to fly perfect a field point will be right down the middle.

I ALWAYS shoot the same weight field point as broadhead.. You spend all the time it takes to "tune" your bow, and find that magic combo as far as field point, and arrow length ect...I sure wouldnt want to mess up all that hard work by changing broadhead weight,in effect changing your spine.

Starting with a bare-shaft wood match with 125 g. field points, I can use up to 160 grain Snuffers without changing to stiffer shafts. For 190 grizzlys or ribteks, I go up 5# for best results.

Broadheads tell the tale.

My experience is similar to Don's.  A 20-25 grain difference between field points and broadheads doesn't make a discernable difference at normal shooting ranges, at least not with wood arrows.

Should be the same, if not, one or the other is out of tune.....O.L.
