Checked the trail cam this morning and found this critter. i know its not a good pick but what do ya think? i believe it is a coyote as there are plenty around. allmost looks like the mouth is open in a growl?
I dont see a bushy tail what about a bobcat
Looks like a little deer.
How tall is that little starter tree by its back-end?
fox, I think
I'd say a coyote.
Looks like the trail cam "clicked" and scared the crap out of him.....slapped his tail between his legs and started to skeedaddle out of there!!!!! Cam probly caught him in mid-spin,hence the blurry picture.
I'd say coyote too cause of coloring with the black up by the shoulder and back leg more dog like...Doc
Yote
If you look at the anatomy of the hind quarters and abdomen and the lack of a long tail, it is apparent that what you are looking at is not a member of any wild dog family and in fact is a deer.
Allan
Deer. (I cheated and used one of my photo-softwares)
It does look like a fox, taking a shake, but the back leg between hock and paw looks too short. Otherwise, a little deer.
You need better pix, Kenny. I'm sending a film crew.
Killdeer :)
Killy,
first time i ever used a trail cam, got some good deer pic's but this one didn't come out as well.
Vermon,
can you clear this pic up with a different software?
Chupacabra
I sent you what I can do with this pic. The full-size original would give better results.
I gotta say deer.
Have to agree with amar911. The arse end of that critter looks more like a deer than any memember of the canine family. Also, the head has the characteristic deer-like profile. My vote is deer.
Robert
It appears to be a deer to me.
Id have to say a deer. Ive never seen a yote that fat with legs that small.
Its a deer...I get pics like that from time to time in low light...
David
Looks like a deer that jumped the string
If thats a deer it sure does have a long tail?????? I'm saying its a Coyote, it has all the markings of one!
deer out of focus
Mountain lion!!
That there is Big Foot for sure. :p
Rabbit Look at the back legs!
Just got out of my New York Hunter Safety Course and the Department of Environmental Conservation says that there are no mountain lions in NY, so there are no mountain lions in NY.
Dry creek,I thought rabbit also.the lower legs says rabbit, fox or yote. It's hard to tell how tall it is with no reference point.
ok, i don't wanna jump on no band wagons, er anything...but that DOE looks like she had fly in her ear.... :smileystooges:
I wouldn't want to bet if it's a deer or a coyote. What I would do is print out the picture,go back there and put a stick in the ground exactly where it stood. You should be able to calculate height by that.I believe a coyote would be about 16" tall.Even this year's fawns will be considerably taller than that.
I'll say bobcat cause I like to be different. :) If you look real close at the head end you can see a cat head reflection at the base of the big tree. look close.
The ghost of a capybara. They be common out your way.
Deer - backfield in motion...
small deer
capybara.
A coyote shaking like a dog.
Small deer, if look close you can see the nose and face.
Reeves Muntjac
Yup!
One of those!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reeves\\'s_Muntjac
Killdeer
Bambi - it's Bambi!
well looks like deer is the group answer. not sure but i sure learned a bunch about critters i had never heard of before! i'll have to check the N.Y. reg's on capybara and Reeves's Muntjac season and limits! :scared: :knothead:
Coyote with deer leg - on your pic most of the head is also missing
crocodile, no doubt,
I saw "Lake Placid" and they are moving north.
Or maybe the Ohio grassman moved east?
Someone call "monster quest"
That's a coyote...no doubt! Heard the camera, and is reacting to it...crouching,tucking tail and swinging head at the sound.....I'd almost bet on it, and I'm not a bettin' man....
Curt,
its exavtly what i thought, yotes first instinct is tuck tail when they crouch. tail looks to long for a deer to me.
I'm with Killdeer...Reeves's Muntjac.
Wallmart is selling them, imported from China. :bigsmyl:
I refuse to shoot them. ;)
It looks like one of those things that some people have as pets. It looks like a "muntjac". but thats not what I've heard them called. A lady we sell hay to has one. I'd have to get a picture of it.
I did a little bit with it, and im now changing my answer to coyote haha
(http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/chonaker4/trailcam004.jpg)
The black "cape" marking is a dead give away too...
Upon closer examination and after watching monsterquest I'm following BMOELLER its a chupacabra I here tell they like hot weather and they're moving up from mexico along with killer bees. damn global warming
I think that it is a small doe. Based upon the rear legs at least that is all that I could see with these tired old eyes. Besides its 2AM
Yote in bye bye mode looks kinda like,,yepper.
Sure looks like a yote to me.
My first instinct was to say a small doe, but I think I'll have to go with coyote, after seeing MDshooter's pic. I'd like to see Vermonster's pic also.
Just as an aside, hve you noticed that if you eat one of the Chinese Muntjuc deer, you're hungry agin, half an hour later? :D :D
No doubt about - Woodchucker doing an early snow dance.
Sorry John, I'm to old to move that fast, you couldn't get a blurry picture of me if you tried LOL
I'm a little late on this but I vote for kangaroo!!!!!
I think I'm going to change my vote to a 'yote.
I can't tell what's in the foreground, but there's a bigfoot peeking out from behind the tree in the background. :)
I think I'm changing my vote to yote also. The animal I was thinking of has like no tail.
I think it is a whitetail doe. :banghead:
If you sharpen the picture to give edges that aren't movement blur then fill in the solid shape, this is what you get. The part on the back that folks are thinking is a tail is where the hind leg was at the beginning of the exposure IMO. Could do much better with the original photo. But this is what I get from the small one.
Sheep.
:D
I kind of like the Capaberra idea myself.
Now it's a black bear. Naw, I still think it is a small deer.
My first thought was a Yote. But the legs look a little long. What was in the picture before and after the photo in question was taken?
Looks like a deer shaking off the black flies and skeeters. Shawn
I think it is a pet of a "bigfoot" family. They keep them around to alert them of danger. It is probably been cross bread to have a good nose and hearing.
Just my 2 cents.
i can email anyone that would like to see the original, bigger picture as there is more detail.
No doubt, 3 year old male coyote, 65.5 lbs. split right ear, bad teeth, missing left eye, answers to lucky!
I just e-mailed you back a work up of the mystery critter in the dark Ken.
That's a little fox. To small to be a coyote. Wishful thinkers...
It looks like the tail is down between the legs. I'll have to go with coyote.
thanks for the help, looks like a deer to me, what do you say?
Wow that second doe is hurting. I think that's her now in the dark pic now that I have the full size. In the small pic it almost looked like a long tail on it, but in the bigger pic you can see the tail is actually a downed tree.
It's a coyote!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Curt,
sent ya an email with a bigger picture, see what ya think.
Checked it out, no doubt in my mind,it's a Coyote...the size, outline, tail, and "cape" marking on the shoulder. I'll stick by my first description of the pic......COYOTE ;)
ITS BIGFOOTS DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a yote. You can tell by it's back legs..Tucker
That is an immature skunkape. They walk on all fours until mature and then walk upright and then,of course, take to the trees.
I've said all along.....
It's a coyote in "get outa Dodge" mode
I will agree with curt and say it is Coyote! :scared:
Chuck,
check your email, i sent you a better pic.
I still say a deer. May I have a photo emailed to me please.
Thanks, God Bless, David B.
I still say its Woodchucker dancing his legs off... :scared:
I got the full size pic...it is not a sheep, but a sheepeater. I think it is a coyote in early to mid shake.
Killdeer :campfire:
It's Chuck and he's wearing one of his $2 wool sweaters and he's trying to take the trail cam for his own use :biglaugh:
looks very scary in similarity!
Oh yea he is a clever son of a gun :knothead:
coyote!
It,s a coyote eatin a deer. :saywhat:
I commented before and was hesitant to hazard a guess.Looking at it again,i'm sure it is not a deer. The lower legs are way too short. The hock gland on the inside of the left hock should be white, this time of year.If you look at the hock on the right rear leg, there should be considerably more space between the ankle bone and the tendon,on a deer.On this animal, the ankle bone and tendon have little space between them, like a coyote.I believe,on the left rear, you can see the paw of the coyote. The foot flares out there but there is no hoof.I believe the blur behind the rear leg IS the tail and others have pointed out the black markings etc.
If thats a deer, I wonder what I have been killing all these years?
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
This is a picture of a mule deer rear leg but the shape is similar to a whitetail.Notice how wide the hock is and that big space between ankle and tendon.Notice also the leg bone lengths.Of course, the hock gland on a mulie is not white like on an early season whitetail.
