Just wondering as to how long everyone leaves their arrows?
I have a 26.5 inch draw and I have been cutting them to about 27.
The other day I shot a new arrow that for fun I didn't cut at all. I thought that it was easy to aim the extra length since I could see the tip better. I shoot instinctive/gap so now I am wondering if I would be better off with longer arrows.
Can they be too long?
If they shoot well for you they can be anything you want them to be. I have a 28" draw and I shoot 29"-30" arrows depending on the spines and what it takes to get them to fly well for me.
I have a 28" draw and leave my arrows 29"
Really depends on the bow...? My draw is 26" and depending on what the bow "likes" 26 1/2 to 28" shafts to get them to tune.
All fall between the two lengths.

as long as I can find them.... (have a 32" draw).... dang I wish I had shorter arms..... though that might look a little funny for a guy who is 6'-7".
One Inch Longer than my 27" draw length.
Whatever length it takes to get them tuned.
My current arrows are 29.5".
I draw 28 and was trimming to 28 1/2 to 29.
Now start with 31" and even some 33" bamboos and don't trim them unless I have to.
People on this sight with much more experience than I have convinced me that there can be benefits to a longer arrow.
Kinda reminds me of that old 870 Remington with a 30" barrell that I owned as a youngster back in the 60's.
I'll call it the longer sight plane theory!!!
I draw just a tad less than 28 inches. All my wood arrows are 28 7/8 inches from the throat of the nock to the back of the point. I leave about an inch overhang beyond the back of the bow for clearance between my fingers and broadhead.
I have a 28" draw. My arrows are 29.5"
I draw 28" and have an arrow lenght from the throat to the back of the point at 28 3/4". Beware though, the shorter you cut a wooden arrow the more you raise the spine of it. I compensate by using heaveier points and with the current set up I have a 15% FoC.
29 half inch longer than my draw.
I draw 27 and shoot 28-30 depending on spine.
I just trim them back untill I can shoot the point weight I want. Most wind up 29" amd I draw about 27.If they shot well full length I would just shoot them that way.
I draw 29 and my arrows are 29. Sounds odd, but I've found when hunting I'm usually drawing at odd angles where it's hard to get full draw, plus I'm all excited etc .... At least I know when the broadhead touches my finger I've gotten 28.5". Maybe just a mind trick, but works for me.
Full length. I use my index finger as an arrow guide, and it just works out that at full draw my finger tip will touch the point/BH.
How long ya got? I've got ape arms so my arrows don't get cut.
Besides I figure the longer the arrow, the easier to hit the target. If my target is 20 yards away and my arrow is 19.5 yards long, even I can't miss.

I'm 6'3" I don't cut them.
28" draw with a 29 1/4" arrow ;)
31" shafts. My draw is 30".

See that is brilliant. :)
30 1/4" inch arrow and i have a 29" draw. I tried leaving them full length but didn't like seeing the point of the arrow so clearly so I cut them to 30 3/4 then add the point taper.
Ditto to what Bjorn said.
Claudia
I draw 27 1/2 ". My arrows are full length cx shafts(33+ inches). Just too lazy to cut them off I guess. I'd rather play around with point weight till they fly good. I will cut if I have to, I just don't usually have to. don
For me my carbons vary in length, they are what ever length that tunes to the bow I'm shooting. Also I think if you leave carbons long enough you can tune them to other bows by changing point weight fairly easy.
I have a 30" draw and my arrows are 31". My arrows are Easton aluminum.
I draw 27 1/2" and my arrows; both 2018 Legacy's and 11/32 woodies are cut to 28 1/4 from throat of nock to back of point. Rich Potter (nut)
my draw is 26" i leve them 28" plus it depends on how well they shoot out of my bows some like 27" some like 28"
Usually 29.5" and longer...
David
I like leaving mine long so if i get a different bow that is higher weight i can still cut them to tune. or i can just drop point weight. Ive found longer ones are more versatile.
I draw 26". All of my arrows are cut to 29". I shoot self bows and like the extra length to help my arrows get around the bow plus I like the extra weight I get with longer arrows. It really doesn't matter how long your arrows are as long as they shoot well for you. Some South American Natives have arrows as long or longer than their bows and they make their living with these long arrows. Pat
I draw 29" and cut to 29 3/4. Aluminum 2317 shafts. Like to have them a little shorter and may try to shave .25" off to reduce vibration in my bowquivers. Grant
Grant, If you lighten your arrow won't that add more vibration to the quiver? Pat
Sorry Pat- Been away from my 'puter. What the problem is is the length- I use the old Bear clamp on quivers-two brackets on my one piece bows and one wire bracket on my takedowns-and they leave a good bit of length beyond the gripper and the vibration increases as the length increases. You point is well made but that i/2 inch or so only costs me less than seven grains. My setups are kinda wierd and I hate to change them. Otherwise I'd just use a Selway on the one-piece bows and forget it.
Grant
I draw 30" and my CX arrows ended up 31.5" through the tuning process.
My wood arrows I use to practice are cut to 27 3/4, I draw to 28"
My wood arrows are footed so that I can get the 33 inches of wood that I need for my 31 1/2 inch draw. They spine out at 85-90 lbs. Shot from my 60 lb longbow or my 60 lb recurve all you see flying down range is nock. I love it
Man, I'd like to get together with BobW and shoot. I leave my arrows 32" so I don't have the need for an overdraw on my Longbow. Careful what you wish for Bob, there are those out there that would love to draw a bow as far as we do. :D
I draw 31" so I get them as long as I can find them and trim them to 32.5". I tried shorter but sometimes I overdraw just a little and hit the spot just behind my anchor and the back of the broadhead hits the bow......bad news once that happens.
BobW, if you had short arms you'd look like a t-rex!
Just kidding,
John
