Thanks! You have a real way with words
Ryan,
That is the kind of mule deer I was looking for last week in NM...WOW! Nice pics and it looks like you fellas will be eating well.
Excellant pictoral Ryan!! Congrats to you and your Dad on time well spent!!
That sure is some beautiful country, man I miss UT sometimes.
Great pics, and congrats on the fine elk!!
I want to see what happens next in the one pic where the hunter is stalking that fine muley!!
I don't have that one, my bro in law did get a shot at the nice three that was with them, but missed. Thanks for all the kind words. I'm still trying to get over the miss I had on that hunt. It was a large buck and the miss hurt bad, but that's hunting.
Jake I was thinking the same thing about CO when I looked at your thread, man I miss it! Great buck by the way.
Good luck Kenny on your upcoming elk hunt, them elk are my curse, 0 fer 20 years, but wouldn't miss a single season.
A picture is worth a thousand word. Looks like a lot of fun to me.
Ryan
I know exactly how you feel buddy, my second day out, it had rained hard in the AM, and so it was nice and quiet that evening. I stalked to within 25 yrds on a buck a little bigger than the one I got, shot right over him. Boy it still stings when I think about it!!!!!!
Good luck with the rest of the season, and thanks again
Jake
This is a great picture! Tell us the story that goes with it.

Congratulations on the elk!
Beautiful pics! Congrats on the first kill. :notworthy: Thanks for sharing.
Alright, short story to go with the pic above. Early Sun we head out. Me my Dad(who you can see in the pic) and my bro-in-law, who shoots wheels. It was wet and the clouds were low. It was the same storm that brought snow to the north. Some elk hunters caught us as we worked our way around the hill. As we let them go by we looked up to see four bucks feeding a couple hundred yrds above us. One 2 pt. one small 3, the decent 4x4 in the pic, and a dandy 3x4 28-30" wide buck. He was nice! We watched them disappear into the clouds and figured we try for them later in the day.. Fast forward a nap, some lunch, and back to where we thought the bucks were bedded. I was not hunting due to it being Sun, but my old man and Ryan (bro-in-law) were toting bows. I have always kidded Ryan about bowhunting, because he moves fast and is not patient. His idea of a successful hunt is seeing a good buck in muzzleloader range. So we all sat in a small avalanche chute, and waited for the bucks to come out. Ryan was going nuts, but I told him to sit it out. It was cold and I knew the bucks would be out early. An hour after we sat, out they came. As soon as they dissappeared behind a small hill. They boogied up to try to intercept them. Of course on the way up they busted a covey of blue grouse. They were able to close the gap to about 60yrds, but that was it. The buck blew out of there, and we didn't see them again. But I will say that taking pics of them stalking the bucks was a lot of fun, just not as fun as stalking with a bow ;)

That sure is some nice country. I drove through Utah a couple of weeks ago. Really nice.( Missed my elk hunt for my daughters wedding.) I guess I never though of it as having that kind of country.
My family and I stopped for a late breakfast one day and saw that someone had gotten an elk and had it in the back of their truck. I had to go take a look.
Nice elk, made me wonder about the hunting in the area.
Unfortunately it was probably approaching 90 degrees at the time and the elk still had the skin on and was partially underneath the ATV. It was there when we pulled in and still there when we left maybe an hour later. Might not be so tasty.
Anyway I just thought it was interesting to see an elk on the trip and then see a posting of elk hunting in Utah on Tradgang.
Congratulations on your hunt.
