Just returned from bear hunt up in Thunder Bay Ont. with my son. Plan was for son to take bear with long bow but he missed his first shot. Rest of bears came in at last light and he was not comfortable shooting so dad took over. The 300 Xtreme mated to a 500gr grizzly stick did the job just fine as you can see. The Xtreme penerated and split a rib and then right through opposite shoulder for a complete pass through. All made possible of course with the 64# Morrison Shawnee. It was a great hunt and Gray will keep working on his low light shooting and do it for sure next year.
That is a good lookin bear, good job Dave.

Awesome bear hunt it!!!!!
Way to go!!! :clapper:
Limbow,
Bob Morrison is getting a shipment this week of 75 or so, as of yesterday he had 50 something sold. Call him soon if you want to try one. Another run will be in works soon as most of first run are gone. I used them on hogs back in Feb and now the bear. It is an awesome head that is super easy to sharpen on a file. The head used on the bear was still shaving sharp after shot. I doubt there is a stronger three blade out there. The ones I have been using are from first batch of prototypes.
Great pics Dave, nice bear! :clapper:
thats a real nice looking BH

Hey Dave, nice lookin bear. Good story and pic too. Tell Gray that at 14, he still has alot of years for his shootin to get caught up to yours :bigsmyl:
Congrads Dave on your bear, Gray is showing real good ehtics at 14, Not taking a shot that wasn't comfortable for him, the boy has some class... In a couple years your going to have some stiff competion and a great hunting companion.
Good stuff Dave !!!! Hoping to put one of those those through a moose in a few weeks.
congrats! :clapper:
Nice job Dave!!
Can't wait to get out there with my new Shawnee!!
Tell Gray that his time will come. I'm impressed with the decision he made not to shoot. Very ethical son you have there.

Nice bear - tough looking head (bear and broadhead).

Thanks guys for the kind words. This really was a hunt for Gray as I had no intentions of taking a bear unless he had one first. My friend, John, that invited us up is an outdoor writer and he loves to take young hunters out and write articles about their hunt. John really wanted to see Gray do this with his longbow. Gray has taken a number of deer with black powder and lots of turkeys with shotgun. This was his first try at game other than groundhogs with his longbow. He had to start someplace and bear over bait is about as good as it gets for predictable targets except for the dusk and black target issue. In hindsight we did not practice for that variable. We did see about six different bears over the four days and he held off on several that did just not cooperate and give him the shot he wanted. I know he could have made the shot I made, but he was not comfortable and told me to take the bear. He did have one good oportunity opening day in good light and shot just over the bear. I think this caused him to lose some confidence. Until this point all he had ever seen of bears was one or two running across highway enroute north. A good deal was learned and as I told him I was at least 30 something befor I got my first bear and that was with a rifle. He has lots of years to get a bear and we are working on plans for an elavated stand on practice range so he can shoot at last light.
Dave, Very nice bear!! I know how much you wanted to see Gray take one with you present. After shooting with you both over the past several years, I know it won't be long before Gray passes the Old Man ;)
Gray, You certainly showed a lot of maturity and respect for the bear. I'm proud of you...Doc
