Got to spend opening day of elk out in the mountains. other than jumping a small heard out of their beds in the thick stuff, i got some good indication i was in the right spot...

i'll be back out for a full week toward the end of the hunt in a couple more weeks. i didn't hear any bugling so i don't think the rut has fully started in this area yet.
Looking good! Can't wait to find my own rubs NEXT week!

Had a chance to hunt a couple days so far. The first day didn't see much but yesterday I found a few elk. I heard two different bulls and was able to sneak in on a small raghorn that was making a lot of noise. A pine squirrel scared me and the bull when I was about 40 yards out. Luckily I've got about 14 more days to hunt. Here's a couple of things to get any elk hunter excited. (http://i330.photobucket.com/albums/l434/rhooley/RubbetweenYoungsandWaldner.jpg)

FJTOYMAN,
You sure set a lot decoys out. Is that legal in Oregon?
rhooly- i'd be camping at that wallo!!! i bet it smelt purty too :)
FJTOYMAN- uh, that there is a herd! lots of eyes and ears though :banghead:
BUFF- thanks! wish i had a camera and setup to film my hunt. you are the master! it'd be hard to pack any more equipment then what i already carry around all day though. i'd be packing at least my body weight by then!
