How many deer do you see while HUNTING that are just out of range or somthing blocks a shot vs how many you kill a year?
Matt
More than you want to think about at this point in your hunting career. Enjoy your time in the woods and take a shot if you have the opportunity. There will be plenty of critters out there to keep you from getting bored while you wait for a deer to come by...but be ready when it does. Pat
We only get one buck tag in my state. I usually see 20 bucks or so in the three weeks of hunting I do surrounding and during the rut in the north western part of the state where there aren't a lot of deer. Of those, about a half-dozen offer shots. I'm hunting mature deer, and usually only one or two, sometimes none, of those are what I'm after. The others are either too far away or don't offer a shot. There are years when I don't loose an arrow at a buck. Numbers are similar for does seen. They seem to offer a few more shots though. I'll sometimes take one for the freezer.
By way of comparison, I used to hunt in the south central (farm country) part of the state, an area now encompassed by chronic wasting disease. The whitetail population is much higher there, and it wasn't uncommon to see 30 deer a day, with a half-dozen or more of those being bucks, but few mature bucks.

Holy Cow! Where are you at Orion??? Im lucky to see 3 per season..
98%
I guess I meant to say, I probably only get a shot a 2% of the deer I see.

does blowing count? no j/k. Seriously though. That depends on many things. For instance where I hunt is so thick you can get right up on deer. 50 yds easy. But you probably won't see them until twenty or less.
So it's a very broad statement. I mean guys that glass open landscape from elevation may see a hundred deer a week. So its more than just a question of see/shoot ratio if you get me.
hundreds.
I'm with Ray.....
Richard: I'm hunting in far northwestern Wisconsin. I should also mention that during those three weeks surrounding and during the rut, I'm in the woods from dark to dark every day. That averages out to seeing one buck a day. Some days I see a couple or more. I can also go several days on end without seeing a buck, or a deer for that matter. The southern part of the state of which I speak is Iowa County. I don't hunt there anymore.
I would guess 25 to 1... I don't shoot at every deer that I can get within my sure kill range. On occasion I will have three or more deer in slam dunk range throwing off the numbers. I've always counted "shot opportunities" at deer. In a good season that I actually hunt hard and forego too much NFL I will have 6-10 opportunities. This season my goal is three whitetail deer with my bow. Needless to say I did NOT renew my NFL Direct Ticket for this season... LOL

I`m with Onestringer, I probably shoot at less than 2% of the deer I see.
A good season will include seeing a half dozen bucks within forty yards. Until my freezer is full, a mature doe rarely comes within range without going home with me.
I'm with Ray also. Hap
Im one with Onestringer and Ray also.
Thousand to 1 when I hunt the strip!!! LOL I am still looking for that one, Must be at 998 by now!!!!
