Title: Muzzy 130 grains/which shaft?
Post by: longbow from LW on August 30, 2008, 06:31:00 AM
This is my never ending quest it seems for finding the correct alum. shaft for my Fedora.  I won an auction for 6 new muzzy's 130gr. 3 blade heads for CHEAP.  So my Fedora is 64lbs@28" and of course is 60" long.  So what alum shaft should I use to end with a 28.5" arrow, will be using 5.5" lw fletching.  Kind of had a similar post earlier in the week but I am finding with some "older" alum shafts I have with judo points, 2219's that these seem to be underspined if you can belive it.

I also have some carbon's I bought a few years back when getting back into hunting from Kustom King, forget the make but if I recall they are spined from 60-75lbs so these may ever work.

I guess one more thought or question here is if I wanted to remove weight from the bow do you do that by sanding the sides of the limbs down?  thanks for any and all info.  keepem sharp

Kind of hard matching broadheads to a shaft. Your supposed to find a suitable shaft first figure out what weight field tip fly's best, then find broadheads. I would think a 2219 would work with a 64# bow if you put more weight up front than 130 grains. I shot 2219's out of a 85# wheely bow and 2216's I believe out of a 75# wheely bow.But in those days with the wheels I had a 29" draw length too so the arrow was around 30"s I believe..Check out your carbons, I think they would be the best bet. If they are in fact spined 60/75#s see how long they are.If  they are close to full length [30/31"s] get some 125 and  145 gn field points on them and see how they fly. If they fly well with those  you should have no problem with the 130 gn Muzzy's. Remember, Carbons get stiffer with every bit of arrow you cut off therefore you need more weight up front to weaken the shaft again. Best example I can give you is my longbows are 46#s to 50#s at my 27" draw length.Arrows are cut to 28"S.They are GT 35/55's I practice with 250 gn's up front and shoot 220 gn broadheads.

If ya cut a 2216 to 29"s long which you would want to do if ya draw a true 28"s a 2216 should fly very well for ya. If ya draw 28"s why would ya want just a 28.5" shaft. The broadhead would no doubt more than touch your finger. Shawn
