Hopefully some of you can learn from my stupidity. Got home this morning from scouting, and began finishing up some broadheads in preparation for the hunt in the morning. I use a paper wheel for most of my sharpening, and it does a great job. I always have used 2 blades in the past, but recently aquired some 4 blade eskimos, and wanted to give them a try. Can you see where this is going? Started sharpening the main blade, the bleeder caught on the wheel, and next thing i know I am staggering back, holding my head. Lets just say I got VERY lucky. Sucker couldve gone right into my forehead, or eye for that matter. Doesnt look like I will need stiches, but for goodness sake, be careful getting ready to go out! Its not only while hunting that we can get hurt, getting prepared can be just as dangerous!! :banghead:

What can I say, I have no shame...........

Glad you are OK and I know I have done worse....

Hey, take it easy! I am sure I am not the only one to pull stupid stunts on here! In fact, I have read my share of stunts on this very website. BBASSI, I think I will find a different avatar pic, I dont want to stare at that everytime I log on!
QuoteI think you just found your avatar my friend. [Smile]
That is one reason I usually avoid power tools. That being said, I have a scar skipping across two fingers and on along the back of my hand. A few years ago, the head wasn't hot enough, the glue didn't melt, and the pliers slipped.
I was lucky, too!

You know Dave... I've been thinking about making a de-motivational poster with that line sort of like on despair.com....hmmmm, what do you think Brack? :bigsmyl:
You guys are making my toes curl!!
Hey, don't feel bad Brack. I have cut myself almost that bad with a razor shaving! Not on my forehead though. lol
He was trimming the hair in his ears... :biglaugh:
Thats Minor,
you should have seen what I looked like when I took the New Treadway out of the bow sock....
:scared:
And I had it sent to the post office at my parents cabin, while we were on Vacation!!!!
:smileystooges:
holy mackerel..l gets me thinking
one time I was heating a head on the torch to get it off. Turns out it wasn't put on with hot melt. about 5 stupid determined minute later, the air pressure was more than epoxy could hold, and the head shot off super loud whizzing right past my ear, and fast as a rocket. It is now embedded in the wall of my shop, forever reminding me to leave well enough alone.
Glad your OK!
DOH! Glad it wasn't any worse!
Aww, don't sweat it too much... chicks dig scars, especially broadhead scars!
Mike
Killie, you are a joy to be around! You crack me up. :biglaugh:
LOL - holy smoke man! I'll bet there is a very tiny population of people that have actually shot themselves in the face with a broadhead and lived to tell about it.
Hehe - glad you're ok.
:biglaugh:
I think that is one penetration test that should be avoided! We sure are having fun at your expense Brack....
Brack....Brack....
You still with us? :scared:
Killdeer :campfire:
The bleeders work. :D
Glad ya weren't hurt, we all have our moments don't we. :D
Man I hate when that happens...
Glad your all right. From the looks of it that head would have NEVER actually STUCK in YOUR forehead :knothead: :banghead:
Not to worry, the bone is thick right there.
Murphys` law... anything that CAN go wrong...will.
Once several years back, I was "sharpening" an already scary sharp Zwickey, that was mounted on a wood shaft, and my new wife bumped into the shaft hanging out behind me, and drove the head into my leg. Almost ZERO pain, and almost ZERO clotting ability.
I promise to learn from your mistake, if you promise to learn from mine. Don`t assume the person walking behind you will not bump into your arrow.
I am still here guys, just laughing at all the responses. In order to make myself feel better, I need to hear someone elses stupid stories. Certainly I aint the only one who has done this. Well, actually I probably am, but how about some others?
crickets...... :biglaugh:
Not a broadhead story but... was at GLLI years ago with the Missus. She picks up an ulu and with a cute little flick of her wrist asks me what it is. I HEARD the ulu cut my elbow, never felt it, it was that sharp. Bled like crazy and then she didn't even buy it for me! She saw one for sale somewhere yesterday and I almost went and hid!
Yep, some things you just have to lie about and take to the grave, and this is one of 'em. Tig
While not a broadhead, my friend(he may read this) was sharpening/shaping a knife he had just made on a grinder and somehow it caught the wheel and it flew up and stabbed him right through the top of the nose.
Pretty scary! Lots and lots of blood, but somehow he was lucky and it missed everything that mattered and just ended up with stitches and a nice scar oh, and a $1500 ER bill because he thought it was worse than it was.
It could've been a lot worse for both of you!
Those are a couple of painful stories right there! Makes me feel a little better. Those grinders are dang scary, never gave em much of a thought until now. You can bet I will be a little more careful after today.
If its still in good shape that should be your lucky broadhead this season.
weeeell you can tell the outside world that its just a battle scar lmao
I don't see an 'S' shape, so I'm assuming the BH had a double bevel.
ooh, that's gonna leave a mark!!
lol blessed one it already did haha =p
Brackshooter,
Glad to hear no long term or serious injury but, I'm curious how this happened. When using a paper wheel (or any power tool) for sharpening, the wheel/belt should be spinning away from you and the broadhead so that if it ever does grab likes yours did, the blade will be thrown away from you rather than back at you. Is this how you were doing it? Just curious,
Ron
two words for you: SAFETY GLASSES! wouldn't have helped where you got hit but could keep you from loosing an eye.
J
You may have been wearing them, you did not say I don't think?
no jokes.just glad that this did not turn out worse.
