Title: Help for Erik
Post by: Bard1 on August 26, 2008, 12:48:00 PM
Hi trad gangers,
I know a young man, Erik, who is very much interested in traditional archery. He lives in Wichita Kansas.  He has a great family, sadly his father lost his job at McDonald/douglas two years ago due to cut backs.  He's recently gotten a new job, but in the mean time they have gotten into a lot of debt.  Mom has been working her tail end off trying to hold things together.  Things are looking better now, but they aren't out of the forest yet.  STill, Erik who is 15 years old and stands 6' 2" already! want's to learn to shoot and hunt with a trad. bow.  This is how we keep our art alive is by helping kids get the bug.  I am asking for donations of a bow that's 40-45# and at least 60 inches long or longer.  Ted at Raptor archery has said he'll set him up with arrows.  I have an extra glove I can send him.  Lets all get together and see what we can do to help him out!

Wichita has a good JOAD program going, they meet every saturday morning to shoot, Bows, arrows, everything including coaching is provided for  $5. They shoot outdoors during good weather and indoors in the winter.

If intersted have them contact Jim at Diamond Archery for specifics.

re reading my first post I should be more clear that the family has fallen on hard times because of cut backs at Mcdonald/Douglas.  I'd give him a bow myself if I had one of proper #.  Here's what I can do.  Any one who will donate a bow in the 40-45# range I will give them one of my long bows.  either the liberty chief, or the dryad windtalker, your choice.  I think that's a fair trade.

he's 15 and is 6'2 inches tall!!
I'll have his mom get his draw length tomorrow, but I am gonna guess 28-29"
she says he's still growing too.    "[dntthnk]"

Larry has a big heart, but the bows just won't fit such a tall kid as Erik, so were still looking for a 40#-45# bow that's 60+" long.

Bard1,  I know you said Arrows were covered but I have a dozen or more 2117s he could use for practice if needed. Vanes on them instead of feathers (from my old wheelie days). I believe they are 31".  Let me know.

Mike at Maddog has graciously offered to make a new bow for Erik, 40@28 longbow.

I'll send him a very nice plains type sidequiver that Jeremy sent me with the knife his Dad made that I won in St Jude this year.
