I usually shoot at a 7by7 inch piece of cardboard with a 1/2 inch brite orange dot in the middle without to much trouble. This weekend I went to the local sportings goods store and picked up one of those big paper targets the have a picture of a deer blown up, figuring this would help me pick a spot better...Well needless to say I did alot worse! I tried imagining that brite orange dot where I wanted to hit with no luck. I tried to pick a small hair out, but the more I tried to concentrate the more blurry the hair became. Any Suggestion?? Otherwise Its gonna be a little tuff to first put that little dot on the deer before I shoot it :D
Use the dark crease behind the shoulder for your spot and as you get more comfortable begin refining it or put a small marker dot on it.
Thats why I don't like shooting at anything with a dot(s). The deer I shoot at don't have dots. Like David said, concentrate on the dark crease behind the shoulder. Pat
I don't shoot dots either, usually...you may have to get a little closer to begin with, until your reset.
That crease is hard to beat for an aim spot...

I posted a video on shooters forum. I hung a walnut from a string and had it in front of my hay bales. The walnut was almost the same color as the hay and at 20 yards I had a hard time actually seeing the walnut. There was just a little bit different color that I could make out. Something along these same lines might help you too.

Use the outer edges of the body as your reference point. The center of a blank field is very hard to hit consistently. Using the bottom edge of the body imagine the arrow going high or the top edge and the arrow flying just under. The brain will calculate what you need very quickly for various distances.
Even use it on your blank target. Look at the 6 o'clock position or the 12 o'clock point. You may be surprised at how small your groups will be compared to an open blank space.
Put the dot on the tip of your broadhead - that way, you'll hit it every time!
Why not try to "become the arrow". Just imagine your arrow flyin' through the target dot as you come to anchor, then let 'er rip! Works for me.... Most of the time anyway.

I thought that everyone knew that the mark of a truly master hunter was the ability to sneak up and stick that little red dot on the deer before you shoot it.
