I need some advise on a used longbow. I have never shot a longbow except in the local archery shop and I would like to try for some reason. I shoot a 62" 59@29" recurve.
I have 2 bows that I am looking at; a Morrison Dakota, 58" 54lb@28" Phenolic Riser,Carbon foam core limbs with Kingwood limb veneer on front of bow.
Fedora Xcellerator, 62" 48#@28" Right hand. Tiger stripe Maple
Are these 2 bows about equal in hand shock, noise, etc ?
Thank you,
You should have no hand shock unless you go with an older style Hill type bow.
The two bows you mention are hybrids not Longbows. If in fact you want to shoot 2 easy to shoot D style Longbows check out a Horne's Traditionalist or a MOHAWK>>>--->
Well I disagree completely with one hair. I find bows with reflex to be much more handshocky than a straight limb longbows.
But I really only noticed handshock when I first started. I was holding the bow wrong. I'm not suggesting people only feel handshock holding a bow wrong, but for me personally I can't feel it anymore.
But those two bows are very different in length and poundage. There will almost definitely be difference in noise and stacking. I'm not experienced enough to tell you how much.
But my .02 the shorter heavier one is going to be MUCH less likable. But I've only been shooting trad for less than a year so...
Both are very good bows. At 58 inches, I think the Morrison might be a little short for your 29 inch draw, however.
And they ARE longbows. They are just a hybrid design.
I previously owned a morrison dakota that was 58" long and found it had some stack past 28 inches in draw length. They are great bows but I would strongly recommend a longer length bow with a longer draw. Something 62" or longer.
