Here are the details.
Arrow: 2016 29 inches, 145 grain BH, 520 grains
Bow: Sovereign Ballistik, scales at 58lbs at 28 inches
Chronograph at 203.2 FPS
Elk huntable? Or am I asking for trouble?
Kinda surprising that you can get good arrow flight from that bow weight using that arrow and broadhead weight (spine seems a bit light). But if you can get close and have a good shot angle...looks good to me!
That's what I thought but check out arrowsbykelly spine chart. Has me between a 2016 and a 2018. When I get back I will probably load up some 2020 but can't get any soon enough.
Bear heart, if you have a 28"draw at 58lbs than that puts you at 8.4 grains of arrow weight per pound of bow weight. I would say your safe but your close to the bottom of safe arrow weight which is 8grain per pound. for elk you need as much penetraion as you can get. so up your arrow weight to around 600grains. good luck Jon
I just weighed the arrow and it came out to about 520grains. I don't have a digital scale, just a hand held pocket scale from 3Rivers. I guess I didn't account for feathers and glue or something.
Thats about half the arrow I would want. Unless its THE perfect shot you may be disappointed.

I agree with TSP that a 2016 is underspined. I shot shorter 2016's from much less bow. Have you checked them bareshaft or thru paper yet?
You have plenty of bow for elk, good arrow flight is gonna be the key to performance.
I blew through an bull elk like a hot knife going through butter with a 512g. Easton Axis arrow and a STOS broadhead out of a 64lbs. DAS bow.
It's not conclusive evidence...but this was the lightest set-up I've used.
I've used 720g. Grizzly Stiks with a Shkote broadhead and 640g. Easton 2419's with Ribteks shooting a 69lbs. Black Widow and got less penetration with the heavier arrows.
All bulls were between 15 and 20yrds. broadside.
I'm sold on skinny carbon arrows for better penetration.
You have plenty IMO to easily kill an elk.
