Saw a few pics so far....just wondering who else will be spending sometime chasing bushytails with nothing but stick and string. Right now, I've got the Dremel whirring and am in the process of lopping the tips off a collection of old Bear, Muzzy, Magnus, and G5 heads...
I'll be chasin' some with my recurve fairly soon!

i am well versed in muzzleloading for squirrels but am new to traditional archery. what type of points would you recommend, besides getting closer what other changes do you think i would need to make to my hunting technich.
Squirrels are notoriously tough. I've come to favor either old broadheads with the tips cut off (for added shock and the fact that they don't penetrate so much into trees), or the old pistol casing/bleeder blade combo...
I plan to but season doesnt open here in va till sept. 6
you bet bro! hope to have a good group of Tradgangers chasing them around in a few weeks! theres a black squirrel in those mountains the size of a large bear cub and he is just waiting to dance with Woodchucker!
Oh heck yeah. Squirrel season = pre-season deer scouting with bonus meat available.
I finally got out for a few hours this morning on some local public land. I inhaled about 34 bug that flew into my mouth, bled all over a couple hundred acres of briars, lost six arrows, educated a few suirrels and had a blast.
I still have a bit before the season opens in Sept., but I love chasing tree rats!

I like ace hex heads, but the most effective head I've found is a big ol' 3 blade snuffer! LOL!
I know I say this everytime I see that picture, but those are the fattest squirrels I've ever seen...
hey Chris bring some rubber boots tomorrow for the frogs as you are the retrieving dog!
...but they're so cute.

Mmmmmmmm....treeveal! :D
Yes sir, Ken!!!
Course, don't know if I'll need 'em. Hex heads backed by 620-grains don't usually allow the frogs to go anywhere...
Treeveal? :biglaugh:
:campfire: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Well,Your right Chris.....They don't go far untill AFTER you hit'em!!!!!
Those dang arrows knock'em half way across the pond!!!!! :scared:
Killy, you always come up with the best response. Of course I'll continue to fling arrows at squirrels, but it isn't often that I hit one. :banghead:
Tree veal!!!!!
Chris, if you think those are fat, you should see the ones I'll be chasing come Monday... it's been a very good year for packing on the weight. :D
I look forward to chasing the Black squirrels up at Ken's as much as anything!!!!! One of these days I'm gonna tag me one of them Big Blackies, and then maybe I'll have a little fun with the D.E.C. Officer.....
I'll hang my Bear tag on his ear and say "Well Sir, I know his tail's alittle long and all,but it looked like a small bear to me" :bigsmyl:
season here does not open till october, it will already be deer season by the time it starts, so my plan is to carry a bow quiver with a couple broadhead arrows for deer, then when the deer activity dies down, I'll get my side stalker quiver for rabbits and bushytails, I will wait well into the season to do this, because usualy within the first few weeks of small game season, the squirrels and rabbits still have those big nasty parasites
