I have a question for you guys. Virginia law says that to hunt big game a bow must be capable of launching an arrow and broadhead (at leat 7/8 in diameter or expanding to 7/8) 125 yards. Short of finding a big field and sending an arrow away, I have no idea how to figure out if my bow will do that. I would assume almost any bow would, but thats nothing more than guess. Does anyone know about what draw weight this law is calling for. I will be attempting to hunt with a bow for the first time this year and want to be legal. Thanks as always for any help.

I believe i could make a bow that shoots 35# do that. it's not like they are going to take you out to a field and make you do some flight shooting. Seriously though, i know deer have been taken with 35# But i wouldnt hunt with anything that is under 45#, just because i dont know if could get that close, since i am a gound hunter, but thats just me. you could always call fish and game and ask what is the lowest legal limit though. Good luck.

I looked, and that is one of the craziest regs I have ever seen. I am liking that you guys have an Urban deer season. I can think of a few places that need some thing like that.
