Ok, getting ready to do my first dozen, picking out my colors, finishes etc and running into questions. This is more gear toward the 3 Rivers Gasket lacquers. Whas thinking of using the white lacquer for my cap instead of paint, will this method give me similar results, a nice solid white cap/finish, or will it turn out to be a clear white, translucent covering. I would think that the gasket would pull it off essentially thinning its coverage.
Also using the gasket lacquer method, how long do you dip them, or is it "in and out". :help:

Since you are using GL, get your self some white water based craft paint from walmart. Brush it on let it dry and run it through the GL. Use the same paint for cresting.
With GL you run the shaft through the gasket, in and pull out with a steady pull. You will also have break in the gasket. Just run a shaft into the gasket a few times.

Let me see if I understand what your saying; Paint with craft paint, and then use Clear GL over entire shaft? I plan on staining the majority of the shaft, with a white cap. Cresting paints should be the same craft paint?

When I use GL I dip the crown in a dip tube using the Bohning crown laquer. Then I let dry for at least 24 hours and then do the Gasket thing. Next I install my cresting again using the Bohning cresting laquers, and let thouroughly dry. Another coat of GL and I am dun.

You will need multiple coats of the white GL to get a solid color.

I had the same question and was wondering about the white GL. Instead I'm going to take a suggestion I received and spray the top of the shaft with white Krylon spray paint (use blue painters tape to protect the bottom of the shaft) before cresting and putting on the final coat of clear GL.
