Title: Quiver by Shell-Exceeded Expectations
Post by: gregg dudley on August 16, 2008, 09:03:00 PM
Well, Shell sent me the plains style quiver that I bought on the St Judes Auction last year.  It is elk skin and is beaded in a Cheyenne style that she copied from an example found at Sand Creek.  The quiver was well worth the wait and exceeded my expectations.  She is sending a matching bow case this week.  All I can say is WOW!  The bow in the picture below is a "Hatchet Bow" made by Danny Beckwith of TBG.  Danny was down shooting at the TBOF Fall Rendezvous and thought I should have a great primitive bow to go with such a great quiver.       (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v611/dudleyg/archeryintheschools026.jpg)

Oh yeah!  The rug in the last picture is a St Jude's auction item from 3 auctions ago compliments of Terry Green.

That is beautiful work! Wonderful colors, and a flowing design, I got a bittersweet pang in my heart at the name of Sand Creek. Thanks to people like Shell, all was not lost in that massacre. Wear that quiver proudly, as there is long history that travels with it.

Beautiful work!  Shell's works really are special.  Not only top of the line craftmanship, but she puts extra meaning and thought into every piece she creates.

Thank you everyone for the kind words you all are very sweet    :)

Gregg, just happy to be getting it done for you and very sorry for your wait time and all others who have been waiting and so good to me. I have had to replace items that never arrived when said so its been hard since I have been out of work.
I have just about everything now and intend to have everything done as soon as I can for all I have promised.

You may want to use a shorter shaft inside the quiver to hold up the supple drape of that elk skin. Commercial tanned elk is like that rather than the brain tanned hides that were used and were more rigid yet soft too and did not require one.
I seen this example collected from the Sand creek site and felt this was the one to do. The inspiration moved me and how humble it sits on display now.
Here are some pics I took and linked to our webshots although my camera did not get the true colors, Gregg's are perfect.

It was my pleasure.

This is the original on display and that it has red trade cloth sewn in around the beadwork.
