I thought it was very good. Especially for a first timer. I kept getting interrupted when I tried to watch it, but I'll have another chance to watch it soon.

I met Doug at the ITBS shoot in Ames this past spring after watching him compete in the speed shoot.  He's an amazing shot - I'm looking forward to watching the DVD!

I stayed up late to watch my new hunting video. It was well worth the sleep deprivation I am experiencing now. Let me start by saying that this is not a Hollywood production. I think that made me enjoy it more. This was about hunting in what I believe to be its purest form. Doug was as real as it gets. You could tell the man enjoyed himself and I enjoyed watching him.
If you are looking for Big bucks, high priced production studios and HD cameras. This isn't it. If you want to watch guys kill animals in high fenced areas and high priced outfitters- again this isn't it. However, if you want to watch a guy work his tail off, hunt public places or places he worked to get permission to hunt or if you love to watch an arrow shot form a traditional bow to take game- this is your video!

I enjoyed every moment of this thing and look forward to next season. I cant even imagine shooting that many animals in a season, yet alone doing it with a long bow while trying to film myself. It remided me of the old Alan Altizer videos.

Thanks for Sharing it with us Doug!

Just received my copy in the mail today and I hope to watch it tonight, but two hours in length that might take me a couple of evenings! Can't wait.

Just got my copy in the mail saturday--  This dvd definitely got me pumped up for the season.  Loads of longbow action in real hunting situations, and plenty of game.  A couple of times I was imagining myself in the treestand there...  I only wish I could shoot that well!
Doug is the real deal.  Absolutely dedicated to traditional bowhunting, and a top notch guy, too.

Having not watched a hunting video in years I can't stop watching this one. Being two hours in length and always being pressed for time I have been watching this video in segments as time allows. Unfortunately, I have been late for work a couple of mornings for not being able to turn it off!

An honest hunting video that includes the good shots along with the not so good shots, the good clear video and the shaky not so clear video, nothing hidden, no wool pulled here. Doug is an awesome shot; he even pops a few Rabbits, Quail and even some Pigeons! Doug's sincerity and skills shine through as a genuine traditional bowhunter and all round great guy. Can't wait for Lettin' Loose II

Thank you all for all the kind words. Hope to do better with the next one, if there is a next one  :) .
Anyone going to build a hay bale blind this fall?
Thanks again,

Doug

I know we had this video in at the shoot at the Wildlife League of Ohio County in Wheeling this past weekend for our fall rendezvous and we just kept running it on the big screen!! When it was over the club that hosted out shoot asked us if we wanted the video changed and we said no way! Kinda like watching a football game. There was about 20 of us campers riveted to the big screen later in the evening after it got dark.

I have watched that trailer video on Chris Sparks Lewis Hollow  web site over and over. I'm going to have to order one myself. Pretty cool that he uses a Lewis Hollow Longbow exclusively. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same with mine this hunting season.

Bentpole,
He and Chris are friends, but Doug uses a 3 piece that he made himself for most of the video. He shoots a Hill Country reversed handle 3 pc as well.
I do not believe that he uses a Lewis Hollow on any of the hunts.

Had just arrived at a shoot a few weeks ago and spoke shortly with Doug and intended to view some his video, but got sidetracked and didn't get back to see any of it. From all the good reviews, wish I would have now.

This is a great video from a fantastic traditional bowhunter and bowyer. Plus Doug is just an all around great person. This DVD is about as real as it gets when it comes to traditional archery, it truly captures the essence of what most of us think of when it comes to hunting with traditional equipmnet. No fluff and nothing fancy but first class all the way. We need more videos like this one to represent the sport, I hope he makes more.

Hey Doug, Really enjoyed watching your video. It's refreshing to see actual hunts without a  lot of macho crap and sales pitches. Thank's for getting it shipped out so fast. Next weekend is the start of our archery season and I have a bunch of friends and family coming then.  I'm sure watching "Lettin Loose" will help to get everyone siked up for opening morning.

Truly one of the most enjoyable hunting DVD's I have watched. Not one "smackdown baby" or other crap on here. Looking forward to next years production. Well done.

Finally got to sit down and enjoy this video from start to finish. WOW! Just a good down to earth look at a man's entire season. Good shots , bad shots, misses, and some luck thrown in for good measure. A DVD I'll keep goin back to. Well done my friend!

Hey Doug, I was just kidding about getting it for the weekend !  Ordered Thur, arrived Saturday !  Wow.

Love the video, no special swoopey graphics with space age sound effects !   Love that you show the bad with the good and how it just takes some persistance to make it turn out right.

One item of constructive criticism would be that I like to know how long the hunter has been at it on that particular hunt.  A lot of times video segments seem like all the game pours into the frame as soon as the set-up is done !   ;)

I loved this fresh approach. First class hunting video.

Thanks all, glad your liking it.
Gordy you are right. I always hated that too. Was thinking of that this last week while watching for bears in Alaska day after day. I will make that adjustment. I usually scout excessively and hope to make the kill on the first hunt in. That happened on most of the hunts last fall. The big mule deer in the video took me 2 weeks to finally be able to blow the shot.  :)  3 or 4 others in the video took me awhile including those dern pigeons of all things.

Yes it is a great new dvd and a breath of fresh air after seeing way to many big trophy whitetail videos , Doug did a great job showing what regular people do when hunting. We have the dvd in stock now if any body wants one , just call as we dont have it on the site yet.
Neat thing also is Doug donates 25% of the proceeds to help get kids started in hunting.
Nice to see something done that portrays the average guy hunting average animals and having fun.

I had to share this... I lent my video to one of my compound buddies. He called the next morning and asked if he could borrow one of my longbows. He said he can't seem to put it down- I know the feeling!
Doug-Thanks for helping the world to be a better place!

This is not a highly commercialized, over produced, made only for profit video that is flooding the hunting film market. No phoney set up stuff here. Lettin' Loose is a record of an obviously very capable and experienced traditional hunting archer packing a video camera along on his hunts. Hard to do and Doug did a great job. Hope he does another.

Talondale, thanks for the heads up. Don't know what the problem is, the file address hasn't changed but I can't get into the server to see what the problem is.

Have you found any other trailers that wouldn't load in that forum?

Does anyone know of reputable outfits that do hunts and outdoor experiences for life/illness threatened kids? I have committed 25% of any profits to these type of organizations but only know of 2. Looking for any suggestions.

Thanks
Doug

Doug,

Enjoyed my copy and awaiting #2!  How about St. Judes or is that one of the two?

Next time I accompany my wife to visit her daughter in Gillette, I'll have to see if you wanna try and collect some "jack" footage!  I went last summer when my wife told me there was a highway "lined with fur"!  I needed to make a ultra-sized back quiver to hold more arrows!

That is the one critter I really wanted to do some film of but didn't. Great idea.
