What do you guys wear during the early season when the temperature and humidity are soaring? Our season down here opens in October and the temps are usually up there. In the past I've worn the lightweight vent back shirts (like the fishermen use) and the lightest weight pants I can find. I still usually have to go through 2 changes of clothes per day (or more) due to the heat. I'm just trying to see if there is anything I'm missing out on.
You might consider Underarmour cool weather shirts. I've used one in HI a bit.
I will second the 'underarmour' type materials.
They work really well when your activity level goes up with the temps.
Someone will say I've lost my mind...but, I've been thinking that light weight wool over the wicking layer should be a good thing.?.?..
I'm thinking wool dress slacks and shirts, type weights.
Drab t-shirts and stuff - also pants. Mmmm bug spray.
Plenty of anti-persperiant. Unscented of course.
cotton
I use one of those mesh bug suits, shorts underneath, when I get cold I get my clothes out of my pack. keeps me cool and my clothes from stinking.

Careful man - that stuff will kill ya!
:smileystooges:
I'm sure the Underarmour clothing is great, but it's a little rich for my blood. I buy the Walmart running T-shirts made out of a moisture wicking material for about $6 a piece. I wear a Bug Tamer top and usually a pair of Carhartt work pants, and a cotton boonie. Keeps me cool and bug free ( I use a Thermacell, too) in our hot and humid weather in the early season.
Predator has some warm weather stuff I am looking at. Also Wally World has a leafy bug getup for $50.
Olive drap t-shirt, BDU pants and a good Thermacell. I found the Under Armor to be smelly. It reminded me of how my old football jerseys smelled after a game.
My hunting is mostly in Nevada...We wear light cotton tee's in camo colors and as light weight camo pants as possible. The biggest issue is trying to stay clean.
Because in our heat your just going to sweat!!!
So we use unscented baby wipes every day and try to shower at least every other day. We use a solar shower which works pretty well if left in the sun for a few hours.
Thanks for the ideas. As for bugs, my Thermacell is packed and ready!
loin cloth only....
Loin cloth!
Loin cloth+poison ivy= recipe for disaster!
I've never worn any UnderArmour in my life. And don't plan to. It's Polyester.
It's the hottest fabric in the world. Makes me sweat like a pig!
Hey I like the idea of the loin cloth...until I get sun-burned!!! OUCH!
The guys on one of these bowhunting texas shows has some great looking camo.
well actually its ugly as hell, and matched to fit texas brush country.
But never the less its so thin you can see through it. It looks really comfortable
It's definitely not scent proof, but i think it will help you stop from sweating to begin with if you pick a shady spot and stay there.
Tall Paul, I know what you're thinking about the Under Armour; I hate to wear even blended polyester/cotton in the summer. However, after my sons kept raving about how the UA kept them cool on the football and soccer field, I gave it a try...and it WORKS. I see you're from OK, which probably means you deal w/ humidity, as do we in Eastern KS. It actually keeps me COOL.
Now, I have a hard time paying UA prices for what is basically a high-tech T-shirt...but Wally World sells a knock-off for about 25% what the UA runs. You might give it a try, the stuff really does work...
a little fishnet from victoria secret helps with the air circulation
this will sound crazy but if ya can get a pair of UPS uniform pants they are very light weight and dry QUICK! also great natural camo color!

Shorts and tee-shirt - I don't hunt shirtless, but felt compelled to remove it as a matter of urgency to prevent toppling over after quite an effort to get this young boar, as it was dangerously warm and humid; boots if there's the possibility of having to walk through a swamp; thongs (flip-flops, I think you call them) if just walking down a creek.
Cabela's MicroTex Light is very comfy when it is hot.
boxer shorts under my ASAT Leafy suit and thats all...besides shoes. That mesh material is really nice and cool plus keeps the bugs off.
A bug tamer on top with maybe a light t-shirt.
A microlight merino wool T-shirt will be more comfortable than cotton in hot weather, and breathe better (and be less stinky) than any synthetic shirt.
A pair of jeans and a T-shirt
In La. as you know it can be hot and humid even in Dec.I do most of the above except the loin cloth and you know what I still sweat a lot just take lots of showers and plenty of cotton clothes.Kip
Our bow season opened Friday. It was 90 degrees with 90% humidity. It will be like this or hotter till about October. I wear light cotton pants (ripstop BDU's) and a sleeveless teeshirt under a bug tamerjacket. The sythetics do nothing but stick to you in this heat and humidity. The biggest thing is to get acclimated to it. I work outdoors in the heat 8-12 hours a day. You guys that are in the AC need to get out in the heat a few hours every day. That will do more than any set of high tech clothing will. Drink water and take your time getting to a stand.
T shirt & shorts with a wet towel and battery operated fan while hunting evenings in my pop-up blind.Texas Hill Country mornings are usually comfortable enough to wear light cotton camos.
I have an under armor loose gear long sleeve t-shirt...also wear a leafy wear bug suit. That under armor is expensive...I bought mine on clearance...I picked up one of those in Wally world's version yesterday for $15...

Underarmour is the way to go I found some onsale at one of my hunting stores locally. When it is sweltering I wet it down and let it air dry. Keeps you super cool if there is a tiny breeze. Great stuff.
Ditto on those who love Underarmour. Pricey, but like quality wool, well worth it if comfort means anything to you.
I am a heavy sweater. I mean, if flows off my chin if it's super hot and muggy. Cotton is useless. I gets soaked and stays soaked. UA dries right away.
I'm sure some knockoff's are probably just as good, but I love my UA and know what I'm buying.
One huge hint of advice...get the UA long boxer shorts. I'm here to tell you, that when it's 80 plus and you're walking thru the woods, the UA boxer shorts keep your "lower unit" dry and comfortable. LOL I'm dead serious, don't leave home for the woods without them. Sure, they're crazy expensive, like $20 a pair, but if you've ever been out for several hours when it's 80 plus and the lower unit is still daisy fresh, they're worth $100 to me! LOL
Don't knock it until you try it. UA is to hot weather what wool is to cold weather.
Wool works well yearound.
I have a cheap mesh bug suit I got from Cabelas a few years ago for the early season and wear it just over boxers and maybe a t-shirt. When the temps start to drop a little more I pull out the longsleeve T and surplus BDUs.
Bow season cranks up in September down here in FL. It is brutally hot and humid. I was a sceptic of the AU stuff until I tried it. Now I am a believer. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.
Hatchchaser I will buy you some wool clothing to use if you hunt a season in it in Louisiana.I don't think you would have much fun.Kip :)
I ware just some running shorts and a t-shirt with a gille suit but I sure do love that themacell the suite is a thread type so it can be a little warm in those 85 deg days whoooo
I wear nothing but wool socks yearround. Lightweight merino wool is cooler than alot of fabrics. I certainly wear clothing as cool as possible in bow season, I just said wool works well yearround. There may be better options. I'd venture to say it's not much hotter or more humid there than it is in GA.
