It seems incredible when I think about it but I have not posted anything here in a couple years. I have popped in from time to time to read a bit, and it is good to see that things really have not changed much here on Tradgang and it is still the great atmospere tradfolk are drawn to.
Through a long and interesting chain of events over the past year I have moved to the Springfield, IL area. I arrived three days ago with my family and am working out the details on a home in the Athens area. I am excited about the prospects of hunting whitetails again after 23 years in Alaska. I am hoping that there are some Tradgangers in the area to powwow with.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Ken
Ken,
You are in a lovely area with a lot of whitetails and turkeys. I am in Springfield on business occasionally and find the community to have many benefits.
Good luck on your transition and let us know when you get your first IL whitetail!
Claudia
Claudia,
It seems to be a great area! I was about 1/2 mile from my prospective new home last evening and saw 3 really nice buck with several doe. Got the blood boiling for sure!
Thanks,
Ken
Wait a minute.....you lived in Alaska for 23 years and now you' gonna be living in Illinois?
I don't think I like you much......
Welcome to Illinois, Ken. I'm south of you just a bit, on the SE side of Spfld, and work at the airport, which is NW. There is a good club not very far from you just south of Petersburg, Menard Archers, with a few stickbow shooters. Shoot me an e-mail and we'll get on each others list.

Good luck this season. Hope you let the air out of a biggin'!!!!!!!! :archer:

Welcome to illinois!!
Where in AK did you live? I was in Wasilla for seven years and am now back in Texas. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Alaska!
Ken,
You may want to look at the United Bowhunters of Illinois wesbite: www.unitedbowhuntersofillinois.org (http://www.unitedbowhuntersofillinois.org)
Lots of good people there. Make sure you look at the flyer for the 09 banquet, it will be in Springfield. As a matter of fact, UBI members are manning a free kids archery range today and tomorrow at the state fair in Springfield. Stop in and introduce yourself. We are also planning a whitetail hunt in October very near you at Jim Edgar State Park.

For the last 11 years I lived in the Fairbanks area. Before that, various places around the state. For some odd reason I was really dreading another winter, the last two seemed to take there toll on me. Minus 50 and darkness has lost its appeal, I guess. The summers were nice and there is a certain feeling of independance prevalant living there, but it was time to go.
I'm going to do my best to get over to the Fair this afternoon and meet some of you. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Ken
I agree with Biggie!!!

welcome to ILLinois ............. BUT .......... the bad news is .......... there aint no big buks no more ............ cougars et em all !!!!! :bigsmyl:
Welcome to Illinois! I'm up north of Springfield about an hour. I would reccomend checking out the UBI link that jered 203 posted if you're serious about bowhunting. Not a member yet but looks like a stand up group of guys. Best of luck this winter and hope you enjoy our sticky hot summers here... hehe.
Welcome to land of Illiniweck. Decatur traditional guy here. Plenty of big bucks around, losts of turkey's. plenty of squirrels to loose arrows at and hole lot of Gar and carp to bowfish.
Ken, as the others have said, Welcome to Illinois! Although I think you went from one extreme to the other, so to speak. Hopefully the UBI will interest you. We are always looking for more quality members. Our banquet is in Springfield during the last weekend of next February. I hope you are able to attend. I always like to hear Alaska experiences. I have some property outside of Wasilla, but don't know if I'll ever live there, yet.
Matt S., I'm glad you are considering the UBI. When are we gonna get together to shoot?
Many Arrows Lost has a point. Sometimes a place can be great to visit at the right time of the year, but the rest of the year can be hard living.
ND has some decent outdoor opportunities, but you need to deal with the 1&1/2 months of sub zero temperatures and seeing snow for 4-5 months straight, then there's the crazy amount of mosquitoes in the summer. Those who love the outdoors and whatever it brings will love those places, but it's not for everyone.

Ken welcome to Illinois I live around 90 miles west of Springfield. Several state parks to hunt in my area with a good deer population. Most of private land in my area is leased out to Outfitters. Also you are coming to prime Osage country. Good Osage grows around the Springfield area. Dean
Hello Ken....I'm 658 miles due east of Springfield, in Manns Choice, Pennsylvania, but I'll welcome you anyway 8^). Think I'll stay here 8^)))))))).
I have been really busy the last couple days. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the welcome to Illinios and that I look forward to getting aquainted here.
Ken
Welcome to Illinois! I grew up in Macomb which is about 90 min. Northwest of Springfield. I spent quite a bit of time in Springfield and like the area a lot. I now live in Southern Illinois and like it even more. Good luck this season!
