Title: "Horn" nocks for ELB
Post by: The Gopher on August 15, 2008, 12:59:00 PM
Hello, i am working on an english longbow and am ready for nocks. i know i can buy them already made but i have heard reports that those from 3 rivers are too small of holes and they have come off for a few people. I don't have a problem of making my own but it comes down to a materials question. the other day i found a pen turning blank that was 1" by 1" by 12" long that was lignum vitae. Lignum vitae is the most dense wood in the world with highly interlocking grain, this makes me think that it would work just fine for my "horn" nocks. the bow will be in the 50lb range, not a war bow or anything. what are your thoughts? thanks,

Gopher, yes you can use wood instead of horn, I've used snakewood on some ELB's... link below shows some.
