Well, the rain has stopped and hunting has started here in Wyoming. The sun is up and I've already blown my first opportunity. As I stood in my blind in preparation for a shot, another doe snorted and took the whole herd with her. I'm hunting near the edge of a alfalfa field where the antelope seem to congegate. There is water nearby, but the fields are irrigated and water is readily available nearby as well. The exciting part of this hunt is that my 17 year-old son is hunting with me. Hopefully the excitement is just starting. I'll keep you posted from the blind.

It's about 8:30 am. I now have a decent buck bedded about 50 yards away. I'm in this pop-up blind just watching and hoping for a shot at half the distance or less.
I was watching another buck about 600 yards away. I noticed he was keeping an eye on something up by me. That's when this second buck showed up. I'll just wait and see if the shot presents itself.

This is great! All we need is live video.
Another very small buck and two does have joined the slumber party at 9:00 am. The bigger buck is up feeding again about 60-70 yards out.
I like hunting in Wyoming versus my home state of Colorado because you can get both a buck and doe license here. It's a good place for kids to get some opportunities.

Keep up the live reports. For those of us who can't be there this year this is the next best thing.
Wow! This is way cool! Are you out field dressing yet?
I was just wondering if a friend of mine was ankle deep in water in his blind?...shoot straight
This is going to drive me crazy. I do not get to go out until this afternoon. I should be in my blind, next to an alfalfa field by 4:00. Good luck to you, I hope you score!
Well whats going on know you got to be blood trailing by now
This really cool. I have to wait till next year to hunt antelope again. This is the next best thing. Thanks.
Typing on the cell is not easy. I also ran out of battery. I missed a decent buck through the netting this morning. Although I practiced a lot, shooting from the blind at live animals is tougher than at home shooting targets.
We went back to camp when the weather threatened. I recharged the phone. Now I'm back at a different blind location. I just had about 50 animals come stampeding by at 15yards. Something spooked them. I had only a small buck stop for a shot. I would like a bigger one so I didn't take the shot. As it turns out my son spooked the antelope when he went to check his arrow for blood. He texted me that his longbow limb hit the blind when he shot at a doe causing him to miss. At least he had a good excuse.
The weather is straightening up and maybe I'll get another opportunity this evening.

This is great keep us posted and good luck!!!
7:45 AM August 16
It rained all night. I was in the blind at 5:30. The rain had stopped. Have had several antelope within 150 yards but not much closer. Right now 11 bucks (one nice one and three shooters) are feeding/bedded within 100 yards upwind. Hopefully they will decide to move my way soon. So far luck has not been on my side. Low clouds seem to be breaking. Hope to see some sun before long.
My 17 YO son passed a 10 yard shot at several does this morning because a buck was following. The buck was a no show so far. I can't blame him, but I'm really hoping he makes his first longbow kill on this trip
Mike.

Mike,
Whereabouts are you? I work at Rock River, Live in Laramie. Been cool and raining two days straight here, feels like late September. Doug

I now have 15 bucks bedded within 80 yards. Two of them are nice shooters. About four others are decent. And the rest range from small to extremely small. They get up to feed periodically and I keep hoping they'll feed my way or decide they need a drink from the tank nearby. I think the rain and sprinklers in the fields have quenched their thirst. I had the biggest buck at 35-38 yards a while ago. I was itching to shoot, but I missed yesterday out of this blind at 30+ yards. So, I'll wait for a shot closer to 20 yards this time.

Well I'm not putting on a clinic here. I missed an easy shot at a doe this morning. I'm not comfortable shooting out of a pop-up blind. Also, I'm used to hunting water holes. This time I'm hunting hay meadows that are loaded with antelope-- just nothing to bring them to my blind. Can't stalk because all the animals bed in these flat quarter section fields with hundreds of eyes watching. I am used to getting lots of shooting opportunities. This time the antelope are close--just not close enough. Oh well tomorrow is our last day. The weather is beautiful again--not like Alaska anymore. Maybe tomorrow!
