Title: tuning question
Post by: greenhed on August 13, 2008, 10:46:00 PM
My arrows have a slight kick, straight up, when I release.  Is this a tuning isue or a release issue?  Or both.  I am getting good groups still (15 yards, 3-6in groups).  Any help is appreciated

move you nock down a very little at a time. if it doesn't get better and then go away, go the other way until it is gone. that should be an easy fix. before you do that try flipping the arrow cock feather in. shouldnt be that tough to figure out.

If you do what overspined says and it doesn't work, then it's probably a release problem.  Likely to be a nock height problem though.

try paper tuning your bow.  There is a you-tube video on how to do it.

All the above info sounds good, also make sure you are not torquing the string.

Dan, use a bareshaft setup the same as your fletched arrows and watch the nock kick on it at 20 yards. If it's kicking high, it could be two things... 1. you have too low a nock point already and so the shaft is hitting your shelf and kicking up.  or  2. you have too high a nock point and just need to lower it about 1/8" at a time until you get good, level arrow shaft flight. I found when doing this, to start out with a 5/8" nock point to start with, and then just move downward until it's right. I also do this with the bow held vertically.
After the nock point is tuned right, you can work on your nock kicking right or left. which is a spine issue.
you can also get a bad release and it will show incorrect readings of the bare shaft, i usually shoot the shaft 3 or 4 times in a row, before making any change so i rule out inconsistancies in my form.
