Title: Right Helical or Left?
Post by: ny_bowhunter on August 13, 2008, 07:07:00 PM
I've been shooting a recurve bow for about two days now and loving every minute of it!

I have some bare shafts to fletch and was wondering if I should fletch them Right Helical or Left Helical? I am a right handed shooter.

Following that question, I know I have to use wing feathers from the left wing for a left helical, etc. What size feathers should I go with?

Use whatever you have on hand.  The only time I think it makes any difference is if you are using single bevel broadheads.  In that case you want to match the helical to the bevel of the head.
As far as size, I really am liking four 4" feathers.  If you go with a three fletch I would suggest 5".

Thanks for that info! Sounds like I have some fletching to do. Right now I have three arrows fletched with a Right Helical and they seem to fly okay.

Be sure to match right or left with the jig. A right clamp needs right feathers, a left clamp needs left feathers. A straight clamp can user either.
