Title: Recurve is noisey!
Post by: Mint on August 13, 2008, 05:13:00 PM
Hey Guys,
Hope you can help a friend out. We both have identical take down recurves. Mine is as quiet as can be and his is as noisey as can be. When shooting the bow it makes a loud clunk. He thinks it might be the pins or stabilizer nut vibrating in the handle. I have a feeling it might be the back of the arrow striking the shelf. We are going to try and figure it out this weekend. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

it could be a number of things but i would try taking the limbs off clean well between limbs and riser and make sure it goes back together smoothly

Be sure everything is tightened down correctly.  Check the brace height.  Be sure the arrows aren't too light for the bow (at least 8 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight).  Check arrow spine.  Check nock height.  If the bow is correctly set up and the arrows match, stand back and watch your friend shoot.  Is his or her form good.  How's the release and follow-through?  Take it one step at a time until you find the problem.

Steps
1. you shoot his setup
2. same but with your arrows
3. If still noisy it's the bow, if quit after step 1 it's him, if quit after step 2 it's the arrow
