So season opens the 15 of Aug. in Wyoming. Can't wait, I leave for home from Greece in a couple of day's and better shoot for a 2 to 3 days to knock the rust off. Any tips on early season. Never hunted antelope with a bow, but I've stalked close with a rifle a few times, using the hills and cover. Any tips besides water holes. I'm not set up for them.
never hunted them, but Good luck to you.
3d decoys work great (doe decoy) and they are a blast to stalk!!!!! Lots of action
I am. Been shooting from my blind in the yard. This is the first time I have tried blind hunting my partners for elk talked me into trying. Have arrows all made up and am using my Meland Pronghorn (instead of selfbow) to hunt pronghorn seemed appropreate. We will be leaving tomorrow night hopefully will get our blinds in before dark and be ready for the opener. I am looking forward to trying something new but I have an issue with sitting still. If I start picking my blind up moving a little and sitting it back down and move some more and set it down my partners will probably kill me or WORSE.
I'll be there.
IMO, the hardest animal there is to spot and stalk. they have a gear of 'cagieness" that I haven't seen elsewhere, and if you thought a whitetail could "jump" a string....
For this reason, its spot and stalk only for me, though I do call them in during the rut. I almost never have time for this, as Elk season is on by them. The 15 days between opening day and September 1st.
use the terrain, go slow. They are fairly easy to read direction wise, but if they are headed somewhere gettin in front of them is quite a chore. Best bet is in the morning, put them to bed, and then take your time. Gotta be quicker than on mule deer though, as they don't sit still for long periods (one hour seems to be a long time). They do use fence lines to walk down, and getting on one side of the fence, stalking toward them as the come toward you, has proven succesful a couple of times for me. Mostly though, its just use the terrain and a lot of patience.
learn to draw your bow to full draw while kneeling down, prostrate on the the ground, its often the only way to get a shot off! Good luck!
Ready? No, but it's not going to stop me from going next week!
Our mailman at work told me the other day that his brother killed with a bow a nice P&Y buck that green scored a little over 83. He shot it last week over a water hole in southern Oregon. That is a good animal for Oregon.
'93 Goat taken near Glenrock Wy...my last trip for goats. My buddy lives in Glenrock and we usually elk/deer hunt...when I can draw a tag. They sure are a beautiful animal...

I'll have fun trying. That's why I never have hunted them in the rut either. It's always the 15th of Sept. and I'd rather be in the mountains chasing elk.THEY TASTE MUCH BETTER.
Blind over water. Make sure that you line the inside with burlap. I also placed a cloth flap over my shootin hole, attached with clothes pins..
I'll be headed for Wyoming the 25th of this month!!! Can't wait to get back out there!!!

I am!!! Wish I could go! :archer:
Well, everythings ready to go! Just gotta wake up, through on some clothes, grab my bow and I'm off...
I've lived among the goats my whole life and while I've taken many with a rifle, I've never even made a serious effort with my bow. They've just been too easy with a gun, usually the whole thing is over by 10am the first day and that includes dressed & hung.
I think it's time to put some fun back into goat hunting......with a bow.
