Title: Black Widow longbow/wood arrow?
Post by: frassettor on August 10, 2008, 03:24:00 PM
Those of you who shoot BW longbows with woodies, I was wondering what kind of speed you were getting.I shoot 58@28 with hickory shafts that are 740 grains, and do not have access to a chrono, so I was just curious if someone out there has a similar set up who knows what speed they are getting.

Frassettor -- My BW r/d longbow was 54# @28" and got about 180 fps with 650 grain woodies, so I think you can figure on 170fps at least. With those heavy arrows and that fast 58# BW, I'd say you're dynamite for elk and moose, even though you don't mention hunting them. For deer you should be able to shoot through both shoulder blades if it accidentlly came to that -- assuming you're using a strong Ashby-style 2-blade. Sure is nice to respond to someone who's adequately armed, rather than trying to scrape by with the minimum. Best luck, dave
