Title: Help us out in NC ...
Post by: Mr.Magoo on August 08, 2008, 09:41:00 AM
This is a topic from the "Wall".  Help if you can.
-------------------------------------
As some of you know, The NC Wildlife Resources Commission is (has not yet) seriously considering letting hunter use the weapon of their choice during the entire season. This is not a done deal yet, and many of us here in NC want bow season to stay a bow only season. As of today, the chairman of the Big Game Commitee , who is gauging sentiment in this process, has recieved a meager 34 emails regarding this new law that may or may not take effect this season. If you could, especially those of you who hunt in North Carolina, please email David W. Hoyle Jr and let him know how important our bow-only season is here in North Carolina and elsewhere. His email is dwhj@bellsouth.net

General comments to the commission should be emailed here: wrccomments@ncwildlife.org

Thanks!

If you would like to read more about these proposals that will changer our bow seasons, read here:

I will go read more but what are they saying, hunt with a gun during bow season? Or is this hunt with a bow during muzzleloader season?

Mr.Magoo you need to reread he proposal, it is legal weapon of choice on "Private" Land and traditional seasonson game lands, also including "Archery" hunting on Sundays. What is the problem here? I don't see one, and I love the idea of Sunday hunting.

Here is what it says:

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 11, 2008)– Committee reports were just a part of the agenda at the July 9 meeting of wildlife commissioners of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, but one of those reports has dominated subsequent discussions.

No action was taken following a report from the Big Game Committee, but the ideas presented have sparked comments and questions by sportsmen across the state.

Among the ideas the committee discussed were:

a uniform deer season across the state that allows hunters to hunt with a legal weapon of choice on private properties while maintaining traditional muzzleloader and bowhunting seasons on game lands;

opening wild turkey season a week earlier but not extending the season;

allowing Sunday bowhunting and falconry.
Also discussed were possible legislative solutions for maintaining and protecting hunting with hounds for deer and bear, while protecting rights of private property owners.

It also will move the season up to start the 3rd of Sept.This will mean guns will be blasting almost two months earier than they are now in many parts of the state.By the time the rut rolls around there will not be a deer in the state that is not nocturnal if not already killed while still in velvet while they are still grouped up.No good for anyone in the long run.jmo

btw.Sunday hunting has been proposed for years and years in NC.It has never been passed and I doubt if it will now.With 4 months of gun season you will be too tired to hunt on Sunday anyway.  :)

I can see  the guys turngin their hounds loose on private, pushing across game lands so to run deer back to private.

Not a good scenario, Doubt they get it changed, but have emailed anyway,

1.The proposal sucks bigtime!! This is especially true if you live where dogs are used for deer hunting. Dogs can't read posted signs. This will also hurt a lot of the archery retailers because some folks only hunt with a bow because they can't hunt with a gun that time of year.

2. The Sunday archery hunting is a possibility. I was told that the commission has the ability to enact it without legislative approval. Legislative approval is required for Sunday  hunting with a firearm.

3. Turkey Season a week earlier is a BAD idea. Turkey season already comes in too early according to the NWTF. We are already having some pretty spotty hatches. This will only make it worse. Some folks are pushing this because they want to be hunting closer to the Peak of Gobbling. They complain that they are having a hard time scoring because turkeys aren't gobbling, much. I say that's BS. They need to LEARN HOW TO HUNT.

4. I don't know who is on the Big Game Committee that made these recommendations, but they need to make them based on sound management and protection of our hunting industry as a whole, rather than politics.

Yep.  The problem is "private" land is right around the game lands.  Once the guns start booming the deer get the message and go mostly (if not completely) nocturnal.  Also, sometimes many folks have permission to hunt the same private land, so unless you have exclusive rights (which doesn't deter trespassers anyhow), you have a good chance of being shot if you're on the ground.

The bowhunters need a chance to fill a tag before the guns start blasting.

So lets have a breakdown...

-Big chance of being shot while stalking or moving from stand to stand.

-Guns going off almost 2 months earlier thus pushing everything you have scouted out of your area, with the possibility of noctunal deer.

-Deer pushed on to private land for various reasons.

-everything Dave said....

So since i dont want to be shot, i cant see as good as a deer at night, i dont have the money to pay for private land, and the simple fact that i love the solitude and quiet that only gunless woods can give me....Well this does suck. I'm voting NO!!!
