Title: Elk Packing Service
Post by: rappstar on August 07, 2008, 09:21:00 PM
Hey!

I'm curious what people have experienced with elk packing services.  I'm hunting in a few weeks and I've read some stuff on the web where people have an outfitter lined-up; so when they harvest an elk, they can have it packed out of the mountains by horse.

The only elk I've killed was on a drop camp hunt so the outfitter came through with horses and packed it.  This hunt is DIY.

anywhere near laramie, give me a call, and the charge is a green apple Jones soda...even bone it for you.  That is if you can get ahold of me in Sept!

I have not used one before. But if you are back in a ways it is a great service. There is one packer here in Oregon that I wouldn't hesitate to use if my buddy wasn't available. Just get some references. You need to hook up with someone who will treat the meat like it was his! Some will even take it out to a cooler in the nearest town if you are planning on staying back in the woods longer to continue to hunt for deer or help a buddy with his hunt.
