Title: No Mercy Double Bev
Post by: Bear Heart on August 06, 2008, 09:11:00 PM
Do these come sharp out of the pack?  Steel hardness?  Sharpening with my KME?  I am not yet up to sharpening Single bevels.

My single bevel No Mercy's came semi-sharp, all I did was hone it up with a file and diamond.

The steel looses it's edge after one or two shots into my Block 4x4.

The double bevel No Mercy heads are like the other Zwickeys.  Not sharp out of the pack but will take a nice edge without too much effort.  Your KME should be just the ticket.

Sticknstring is that because the steel is soft?

Well mine are compared to my WW's.

But I'll use mine anyway, they fly great and should penetrate well just a tad bit farther then the WW's.

Man, I have to get one of these in the BH sharpener today to find out myself. This question has come up 3 or 4 times this week.

I only hesitate to say yes the KME will do it because of the NO Mercy's unusual blade shape. Not sure how the sharpener will handle two seperate angles on the same blade.

I saw a No Mercy at the shop last week. I'll see if I can find it today and give you a definate answer tonight or tomorrow.

I don't know if I accidently annealed mine in my mounting process, but my No Mercy's are very soft.  They even sound like aluminum when you "clang" them together.

Sorry for the delay,

I found the very rusty No Mercy which had never been sharpened and just finished tuning it up with the broadhead sharpener. The answer is a definate yes, it will do them, both single and double bevel styles.

Because of the double angle head profile, they need to be done similar to a curved edge blade by manipulating the clamp to sharpen the forward 1/3 in one operation and the rear 2/3 in another.

You can watch the demo video on my website and especially the secion on sharpening curved blades. Similar technique but, only two positions instead of working the length of the blade from end to end.

The steel does seem a bit soft. It only took me about 5 minutes to get one blade to plow hair in any direction, which is pretty quick for the first "out of the pack" sharpening.
