I realize the summer heat is out there right now, but for anyone interested in joining us for one of our February '09 Cabin Fever Texas Pig-Gigs there are still a few slots available. You can read about all the options on our website at www.brothersofthebow.com. (http://www.brothersofthebow.com.) These reasonable, fun hunts are extremely popular, so if any of you are interested, now is the time. The bad news is Hunt #1 is sold out; Hunt #2 sold out; Hunt #3 sold out (I told you they were popular). But I still have seven slots available for Hunt #4. This hunt is on the same 12,500 acre property as Hunt #1 but after it's rested for two full weeks. Actually that works out well in that by the second hunt we know where the hotspots are. Additionally, this ranch is also excellent for spot and stalk bowhunting. I, myself, bowkilled five hogs in one day last year just slipping around. And that was on the last week of hunting the property. Obviously, that's not the norm but it shows it has the potential for plenty of action. Gene and I are in camp the whole week. If anyone is interested please get back with me ASAP because we'll very likely be sold out shortly.Hope you can join us. Thanks. BW
I'll second going on this hunt, I went on this ranch last year and killed 3 and had more opportunities, I am going again ! I think this is one of the nicest ranches I have hunted on.

Barry, old, old trusted companion. I assume you received the deposit for me and friends (?!?). Don't know if Ollie and Clayton can really be truly called friends since both are a little odd.
Little Gene
I can't wait Barry- Thomas said this was a super hunt and a guy who calls himself "Hogdancer" oughta know, right? See you in February. Grant
Gene, what do you expect from someone who lives in Iowa......
I've been on a few of these hunts. Great times and great company! If I didn't have hogs in my backyard, I'd go every year.
Gene H: Yep, got the deposits for you and the guys fine. Thanks. Grant: Yep, Hogdancer is a huntin' fool. He's booked for BOTH Hunt #1 and #2. It'll be fun hunting with you again. By the way, I heard the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders are having a Spring training camp right across the river from our hog camp. BYO hipboots. bw
Thanks for the cheerleader headsup, Barry. I just bought a new pair of 8x32 binos. I may need more mag. power based on this late breaking news. How deep's that river anyway, lol? Grant
Yee Haw!
I just got off the phone with Barry and my buddy Ben Saye and I are penciled in! Great talking to you Barry, I am looking forward to meeting you in person.
Tom
Tom: Are you THE Gatekeeper? bw
The "Ghostbusters" Gatekeeper?! We'll have to visit with the cheeleaders! :D
Actually, if the Dallas Cowboys are across the way I'm not even bringing my bow. I'll hope to give "Hogdancer" a whole new meaning! I confess here that "Curveman" had nothing to do with archery either! :bigsmyl:
OK, I might have to delete this post myself after a minute!
....I guess I'd better sign up to keep Gozer in line.... :bigsmyl:
fatman
Sure do wish I had more vacation time...
Barry: If the girls are across the river, I will be able to pack light. Rod
Hey Uncle Barry, What kind of deposit do you need for across the river???? The Langer Gang
Sorry Barry... I didn't mean to scare you. I'm not the keeper of the Pearly Gate. So you can relax and continue to be yourself. :goldtooth:
Kevin,
Great to have you join us! Three guys from the Kansas City Traditional Network are participating in this hunt. I'm glad to see this!
We'll have to team up and sleep in shifts while the other guy keeps an eye on Ben.
Uncle barry,
I really am looking forward to PG along with LLoyd & Eric Ackerman.
Is there Coyotes,Fox,Bobcat & Armadillos there ?
Are any of them Fairgame ?
....yeah, Tom, or we could just bring duct tape....
What makes me think I'm getting a bad reputation? I try to live a clean life!

I don't think that would be a deterrent. I think that would only encourage him.
Can't wait! We'll be in camp with PBSers from PA, a fine bunch of guys for sure!
What week you going Kevin?? Rumor is that Uncle Barry is providing all the refreshments for the week 2 group so I need to get my order in. (http://www.smileycons.com/img/emotions/202.gif)
I think you mean the KeyMaster?????? Gozer.
Ben, Tom's not off the hook...we've got to make sure his wife keeps him off the beans for a couple of weeks before the trip.... :bigsmyl:
:campfire:
Dick, we will be there on week ONE. I'll make sure they save you a refreshment or two...
I'll be back again this year at the Vinson Ranch . . . doing hunt #1. Bringing my son-in-law again and an ex-student of mine for a second time. Both of them shoot wheels but hopefully the rest of us can show them the error in their ways:^)
Looks like all the slots are filled now, pending two guys calling me back tomorrow to confirm. I just had one cancellation on Hunt #3, so there is one slot and only one left on all four hunts. Thanks guys. I should fess up to the Dallas Cheerleader stuff. I just made that part up. Actually I got one guy from Louisiana in trouble last year when his wife read that part and actually believed it. He said he really had to sweet-talk her to get to go. When are you guys gonna learn I sometimes speak with forked tongue? And Tom.. regarding the extra critters, coyotes, fox, bobcat, rabbits, armadillo, etc. all you want. No limit on hogs either and no additional trophy fees. "When there's arrows in the air there's danger". BW
So that Ishi Stuff wasn't true? You make a GOOD WHITE MAN speaking with forked tongue..Where should I put that tree stand? Oh yes by the deer run..Down wind of course..Barry maybe 2010 there will be an opening....Tdog..I'll bring the Bobcat hat...
Barry what is left? Just the one vacancy on the third hunt, any in the 4th? I hope you still have a slot. Thanks RP
maybe I ought to sign up for hunt #3 as well !
Sorry guys. All four hunts are totally sold out. If anyone wants to be put on the list for cancellations please emailme at my hotmail acct. Also, there is a POSSIBILITY we might be booking another/fifth week. If that gels I'll let everyone know. Thanks. BW
My deposit is on its way!
Hey Barry, please post the names of all the people going on the #4 hunt. Thanks.
I sent my deposit in yesterday also! Can't wait till February gets here. Ben
I don't know about posting all the names.. what if their wives don't know about it yet. Especially with the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader part. I could PM you though. bw
Gottcha...Barry, if that is your real name. :saywhat: We're incognita. Kinda like double ought spy stuff. Send me the secret list through the scrabbled PM bat line and I'll read it with my official Trad Gang issued decoder ring before the message self destructs.
....when Tom was growin' up, he couldn't decide between brain surgeon or double naught spy... :knothead:
don't encourage him, guys.....

As soon as I get the growing up part figured out then I'll start working on my career choice. But don't rush me!
:jumper:
Hey gang.
Will the rattlesnakes be out in February? I would like to gather a few snake skins.
Thanks Barry for setting up a 5th hunt. Sorry I won't be able to take advantage d/t timing issues but if anyone can't make the 3RD hunt I will definitely take their spot. Thanks again. RP
Good News. Gene and I just confirmed a Hunt #5. Because these bowhunts are reasonably priced and so much fun, all four of the first listed hunts have already been sold out. We've just been granted permission to have another hunt on the excellent 80,000 acre Chaparrosa Ranch just south of Uvalde, Texas for March 2-3-4-5-6, 2009 (M-F). If you go to www.brothersofthebow.com (http://www.brothersofthebow.com) and read the info regarding Hunt #2, all the info will be the same, except the dates naturally. We've hunted this ranch at least four times and it's always been excellent for both javelina and hogs. In fact, the hog numbers have probably tripled in the last couple of years. If anyone is interested please email me at barrywensel@hotmail.com and I'll pencil you in according to availability. Then after you're penciled in you can print out a registration form via the webpage and mail it in with your deposits. Hope you guys can join Gene and I on this bowhunt. It's a great cure for the winter blues/cabin fever. Thanks. BW
Check went in the mail for #5. Can't wait.
That's the opening week of turkey hunting in South Florida. I'm out!
Wait a minute, you've hunted it 4 times and the hog population has tripled?
Doesn't say much for your hunting prowess....
I'm going to Marty's.
Bigster...That population explosion will be dealt with during week two. :bigsmyl: We'll try to leave a few hogs for the week five gang. No promises on the javies..they may be completely wiped out. (http://www.smileycons.com/img/emotions/88.gif)
Yeah the hog population has really exploded. Because it's been so dry down there for the last couple years, all the hogs are concentrated near the tanks and any water sources enjoying one big constant orgy. The sows are dropping big litters multiple times per year. Makes perfect sense. BW
Rabbittman.....I have faith in you!
