Hello All,
I've been lurking here for awhile, gleaning what I can. Currently shooting my Dad's Howatt Hunter (I'm an 80 model, and the bow predates me). It's a 50# @ 28", 62" AMO RH. I'm drawing 29 3/4 to 30" shooting instinctive with a cant off a T300 elevated rest. I really want to take a deer with the bow this year, and need some advice on arrows. I'm looking at the CX Heritage series, thinking I probably need the 250's. What shaft length and point weight should I think of starting with? Should I consider weight tubes, and if so which weight? If possible, I'd like to tailor them to also shoot well out of the bow(s) below.
Second question, and this relates to the first. I've been looking hard at the Widow PSA X and the RER LXR. Probably 50# @ 28 and 60 or 62 AMO on either. Which bow would you guys recommend? Widow's site says their wait is around 7 to 10 weeks....what's the average wait for a RER? RER has got some absolutely beautiful bows (the coco and osage I've seen on here I REALLY like). Would I gain smoothness/speed/quietness/shootability with one over the other?
Thanks
Nathan

As to Carbon Express Heritage arrows: my 56#@32 Lb likes 250's w/ 225g - 250g up front, and my 59#@32 Shrew likes 250's w/ 250g - 300g up front. My arrows are full length (32.75") with an aluminum extension of an additional 3/4".
If I remember, 250's are 80# spine (might be completely off on that though - thought I had just seen that recently).
As to your bow questions, I'm going to pass.....
I know little of carbon arrows - I'm a timber shaft shooter .
I have an RER Arroyo and a mate has a Black Widow of similar drawweight - both bows are smooth , fast and stable . There is nothing between them in my veiw . The widow costs 3 times more down under . Its not even close to 3 times the bow . Mind you I would not mind one myself . I caution that pretty wood does not get an arrow down range any better
Depending on cost I'd go for the RER as it just seems to fit . Everyone that shoots my bow likes the way it handles but he does have a substancial waiting list of 9 months plus last I heard .
My bow was an instock model available for immediate delivery - perhaps RER may have something suitable
Have you considered a second hand bow of either breed . The classified's here are bound to have something .
regards Perry
I waited 10 weeks for my pmav, and it will be 13 weeks for my plx
I prefer gold tip 35/55 cut to 29 inches actual shaft length with 125 grain tip / bh with 120 grain inserts behind the insert for a total weight of 490 grains. I just bought 30 inch 55/75 with the same insert weight combo and have have good luck. I personally shhot a 48 lb bob lee and 52 lb. bw psa and love both bows. I would stay away from weight tubes due to noise within the shaft. I'm not familiar with RER but for your first year, hunt with the Howatt and see if you meet some of the bowyers at some trad 3-d shoots and shoot the other dream bows to see which you like instead of buying first. You may also want to look at the used bows on this site. However, your bow is a perfect weight and will do fine. BW has a test drive program also. Good luck Bhill
