Title: Moose vitals?
Post by: sticknstring_AK on August 04, 2008, 07:41:00 PM
Just want some input on moose vitals with archery equipment.  I read some time back you wanna go 8" back and up from the bottom of the shoulder and belly connection.

Thanks in advance.

You can go 8 inches back, but nothing wrong with tucking it closer to the front leg.  I don't understand what you mean by up from the sholder and belly connection.  Generally, you want to go up 1/3 from the bottom of the critter's body.  Good luck.

I shot a cow last year and hit the knuckle that covers the heart/lung area. The Razorcap sliced cleanly thru, centered the heart and tore the lungs to pieces. She was down in three strides. I shot a bit lower than I intended by about 3" (they are big and appear to be closer than they are) but the shot turned out to be perfect. I would recommend aiming about 1/3 of the way up in line with the off side front leg. If you shoot a tad high you will get top  of the lungs and a tad low will get heart and lungs.
